NO SIGNAL from USB 5220 DVB-T/T2

NO SIGNAL from USB 5220 DVB-T/T2

Tried two sets of drivers (supplied and latest) and the unit does not pick up a signal from a known good aerial feed. Crystal Palace transmitter.

My other USB, pci and PCI-X UNITS do not have this problem. edit ( TBS 6284 pci-x, pinnacle 710i pci ad 7010ix pci-x, USB AFTECH based TU200 )

Using VISTA 32 and MediaPortal latest release (I am a Team Tester for MediaPortal)

Also tried the supplied DVB software this also doesn't pick up a signal.

Do you have any debug drivers that may help find the problem?

Hi SciDoctor

Which driver you are using? Do you have updated the driver to the latest version:
http://www.tbsdtv.com/download/#tbs5220
http://www.tbsdtv.com/download/document ... .0.0.5.zip

Kind Regards

Thanks for the replies.

Tried 1.0.0.3 and 1.0.0.5 drivers.

Update to first post for other tuners I test with and have no problems with signal ( TBS 6284 pci-x, pinnacle 710i pci ad 7010ix pci-x, USB AFTECH based TU200 )

I also tried the USB stick on a friends PC with XP and reception from a different transmitter 'ROWRIDGE' and had the same no signal problems.

I receive both DVB-T and DVB-T2. One UK MUX broadcasts for DVB-T2. (what an odd question)

no channels found usb 5220.JPG

good signal from AF905 tuner.JPG

From these pics you can see that AF9015 has no problems with signal but 5220 can't get a signal lock.

Please NO MORE silly questions.

I have used the same aerial feed for the tuners, this gives excellent result on all other tuners but NO SIGNAL on the 5220.

I have tried different USB ports USB2.0 and USB 3.0.

I am holding back on the mini review I was going to do for MediaPortal comparing the good points and bad of the TUNERS I have used and USE now, especially with small form factor PC's , at the moment the 5220 is a complete NO GO.

Hi SciDoctor
Is tbs5220 directly plugged into the USB port of computer motherboard? USB2.0?

thanks.

The TBS5220 has been plugged into three different ports two USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0.

The device is detected correctly and the drivers instal correctly.

The device is then correctly detected by the software MediaPortal TVServer and TBSVIEWER.

From experience I would believe the preamp section of the device which handles the aerial input isn't set up with enough gain range for the average UK broadcast signal to achieve any where close to 'full quieting'.

This may be hard wired (very bad design) or under the control of the drivers (good design).

From looking at the TBSViewer software they have the details of the MENDIP transmitter, if testing was done at this transmitter only then they had chosen one of the easiest UK Transmitter signals to receive, I know because I lived and worked in the MENDIP region from 1992 -2009 using DVB-T and then DVB-T/T2.

Hi, if I may join in here, I am experiencing the exact same 'No Signal' problem. However one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the blue LED on the stick. Now I'm assuming this is a power indicator (there is no documentation for the stick) and if that's the case, it only illuminates for a few seconds after being plugged in and then goes out. Trying to turn it on with the supplied remote produces a very faint flash. I have tried it through a powered hub but it made no difference. I am running the latest drivers and the stick is being recognised by TBSViewer and DVB Dream.
