Flash / Skype support

Flash / Skype support

Postby realn » Thu Aug 28, 2014 8:47 pm

Hello,

I've had the TBS 2910 for 2 days. The intent was to use it as a general purpose machine running on Ubuntu.
There are, though, 2 missing fetures that keep me from keeping it: Flash and Skype support. I need the two, none of them seems to be supported: there is HTML 5 support on firefox, but the video playback is choppy and CPU is at 190%. So it seems no hardware acceleration is available. Asfor skype - completely missing.
Could someone please confirm that these features are not availabe, at least I wont spend any more time looking for a non-existing solution?

Succesfully tested: wireless + wired Lan, HD video playback, optical audio.
Totem was the only player able to play HD content.
Smplayer wa pretty slow, VLC - force closed.

IMO, Do not waste any more time.
I have spent many hours trying to get Flash, Skype, and Wine to work on the Matrix. It would be nice if these features could be made to work in a future Ubuntu upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. And I was dreaming about VMWare.

It seems I got the wrong device, then.

Do you have Skype installed on the Matrix?

Yes, I tested that more than once.

Hi guys, thanks for the tips. Skype is not a must-have, as there are alternatives, as mentioned.
The must-have is really the Flash support - there are so many places on the Internet that offer no alternative to that, that it makes the otherwise-so-wonderful MatrixPC useless. On top of that, html5 video playback,on youtube, for instance, is unusable.
Can someone confirm that youtube plays OK on the device?

Greetings

If you use openelec you will find xbmc addon for google chromium (flash capable) and youtube addon which is performing quite well.
There are also few more very usefull xbmc packed addons such as wireless manager or torrent client or email client have a look here

Hi. Thanks for the tip.
The problem is that I wanted to use the Matrix primarily as a light desktop replacement - browsing, light document editing, multimedia, and not as a XBMC machine only.
So, it seems I'm in a pickle - I can do stuff in XBMC that I can't do in Ubu, and the other way around.
