linux remote problems (Solved): )

Postby Niels » Tue Jun 19, 2012 3:31 pm

HI Everyone.

I am trying to use my remote with the latest mythbuntu 12.04.

I successfully installed the driver on mythbuntu 12.04.

when I installed lirc with mythbuntu the remote never worked. I reinstalled mythbuntu without lirc and then installed the driver again.
Without lirc, the remote now worked partially - arrows, volume and numbers

I installed lirc and followed the config instructions on viewtopic.php?f=22&t=103&start=10#p615 (used exact config files, made rule for tbs-ir)

mode2 always responds to the remote.

if lirc is turned off, remote works partially (same as when it is not installed) - arrows, volume and numbers.
irw doesn't work

if lirc is turned on, remote does not work at all, no response on any button.
irw doesn't work

if lirc service is turned off, but I run lircd manually, remote still works partially (same as if it is turned off)
however, irw does work ! some kind of breakthrough but it doesn't help because the software is still doing the same as if lirc wasn't installed.

irrecord usually gives me just one dot and then nothing.

I feel like the problem is that whatever is picking up the signal without lirc, is prevent lirc from doing so, as was suggested in
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2896 (but what is offered there as a solution there doesn't even work for me).

I really hope someone can help me because I have been working on this for so many hours I am at the point of banging my head against the wall.

The partial function, maby is because ths S.O. is capturing ir commands and work as is you push the keyboard. In this case, disable this in your S.O. or config all remote buttons.
Best regards.

I'm sorry. S.O. = operating system, in spanish.

Configure buttons depend of your linux distribution, specialy desktop environment.

Best regards.

I was able to solve my problem by turning off lirc completely and using a tool called ir-keytable, to reconfigure the key codes mapped to the remote buttons. I linked it to regular keys like 'p' for pause, mapped the ok button to the regular 'enter' etc.
This way I am able to use all the buttons in my applications, just making configuring them to use the same keystrokes for the same action. Works like a charm and I am very happy.
