SOLVED TBS6280 - no TV hdmi sound output from graphics card.

Postby Kojak » Sun Mar 10, 2013 3:07 am

This is probably a bit of a long shot but here goes...

I have my TBS6280 sitting alongside a Zotac GT210 graphics card in a HP N40L microserver. I intend using this as a Ubuntu HTPC if I can get it going. The problem I'm having is that I can get pictures from the Tv card from the HDMI output of the GT210 but I can't get any sound. I know there is some sound working because typing aplay /path/to/sound.wav plays the sound from my speakers (HDMI out).

Is there something to do with the TBS6280 that may be causing this or is it more likely to be an issue with config of the PC? I've looked in the mixer settings and all four outputs are unmuted. I can even see the audio levels changing in Pulseaudio Control centre (pavucontrol).

Any suggestions?

Hi Kojak.
These is not a problem of TBS6280 card. TBS6280 don't send the sound, this is done by the app that is using the card.
Check your app configuration and be sure it's sending audio via hdmi.
Best regards.

I see this error when trying to play TV through VLC. Not sure if it's relevant.

OK, this is SOLVED. Again I'm not sure exactly what the solution was. A lot of tinkering with pulseaudio (removed and re-installed) and same with pavucontrol.

After all the messing with pulseaudio I had to select HDMI output 4 in pavucontrol. Then for some reason I get sound! I really wish I could say for sure what the solution was but it just kinda happened.

*** I had to use mplayer to get sound, VLC still fails ***

mplayer dvb://
