Firmware V2.0

Postby warumnix » Tue Nov 19, 2013 9:24 am

Hello All,

The firmware for MOI has been updated to V2.0 with the following improvments:

A RS232 serial cable and a micro SD card are necessary for this update, please make sure those things are ready before you get started.

All of your settings before the update can NOT be saved, and you might need to change the IP again if your IP is not in the same IP range with MOI, please refer to the user manual for more information about IP settings.

What’s new in V2.0:
1). Add VDR support.
VDR provides a more convenient way to receive & watch encrypted TV channels, because it enables dynamic loading of CAM.

2). Add telnet protocol for remote access to MOI.
login: root
pass: tbs

3).Satellite list has been updated, the number of satellites increases from 94 to 154.

How to update:
1).Connect RS232 serial cable & install software.
Connect one end of the RS232 cable to MOI, the other end to your PC, install the software:
- for Windows users: TTERMPRO
- for Linux users: minicom
NOTE:
a.the software mentioned above is only for reference, you can use other software as well.
b.uClibc has been changed to EGLIBC.

2).Update through micro SD card*
Prepare a formatted micro SD card, copy the file “MOI290-fs.bin” into it, insert it into the SD card slot on MOI, power on MOI, “Enter” uboot quickly (within about 3 seconds after MOI is powered on) and input the command lines:
setenv loadmmcfs 'fatload mmc 0:1 40000000 MOI2900_fs.bin'
setenv updatekfs 'nand erase 50c0000;nand write.yaffs 40000000 50c0000 ${filesize}'
save

then input “re”, MOI will start to update.

* Update through USB stick is not supported for this version.

More about VDR* support
VDR provides a more convenient way to receive & watch encrypted TV channels, because it enables dynamic loading of CAM.

1).vdradmin support
With VDR running, input MOI IP:8001 in the address bar, for example, if your MOI IP address is 192.168.1.188, then input 192.168.1.188:8001, the user name and password are both tbs. On this site, you will be able to view the EPG information, however, other settings are not supported at the moment.

2).How to use XBMC to connect VDR
With VDR running, start vnsiserver (default port: 34890) and xvdr client.
Please make sure to install vnsiserver4 or xvdr-plugin before you try to connect VDR.

The plug-ins are available to download from the links below:

vnsi

xvdr

3).How to watch TV channels via VLC
Start VLC, and then enter the URL below in “Media” -- “Open Network Stream” --“Network”
http://MOIIP:3000/TS/1
for example, if your MOI IP address is 192.168.1.188, you should enter
http://192.168.1.188:300/TS/1
*More about VDR, please refer to http://www.tvdr.de/

Does the VDR have better performance on MOI? I really struggle with timeshifting on HD channels with tvheadend

Hi skdubg.

I update MOI following carefully all steps on download section, specially step 2 and I have not problems with update.

** Unable to read "MOI2900_fs.bin" from mmc 0:1 **

NAND read: device 0 offset 0x48c0000, size 0x400000
Main area read (32 blocks):
4194304 bytes read: OK
get_format
-------- 0 --------
Wrong Image Format for bootm command
ERROR: can't get kernel image!

This like a SD card problem or an incomplete copy.
Maybe you can try erasing all in sd card and downloading firmaware again.
Regards.

Hello,

tried to update to 2.0 using the outlined procedure. But connecting the RS232-Cable to the MOi and starting a Terminal-Session through Tera Term brings up just an empty screen with no input possible. I tried restarting the MOI with and without the SD-card (containg the update-fies), but it did not change anything. I first tried to use a USB-to-COM-Adapter on my Netbook, but meanwhile got an old Notebook with physical COM-Port - same result. Just an empty Terminal-Screen and no input possible.

So what can I do?

Brgds,

Hello,

I am also not able to update using a R232 cable. I have followed all the steps, but like fantasticn I cannot see anywhere to input any lines in Tera Term. I even tried with a null modem cable just in case it was that but again that made no difference.

Any tips would be much appreciated or hopefully an alternative upgrade procedure?

Hi im85288c
This is my config in Putty (http://www.putty.org) to connect MOI.

I'd never used Tera Term, but maybe this is util for you.

Hi SergioDanielG,

following your advice I set Speed from 9600 to 115200. All other settings are the same that I already used before (besides the name of my COM-Port is COM1). But nothing happens. Termin-Window is empty and I cannot enter anything.

What am I supposed to receive when I open up the Terminal Window? Do I get a status message? Do I have to reboot the MOI to get it or will it come when ever I start the Terminal Session?

Actually I am very frustrated with the update. Is there no way around using a RS232-cable? Nobody is using this kind of connection anymore - not for any kind of modern device. For ages no PC has been built with COM-Ports anymore. Now I am twidelling with my netbook and an USB-to-COM-Adapter on one side and a ten year old notebook (with an old-fashioned physical COM-Port) on the other side, and I am trying Tera Term, Putty, WinSCP etc. to establish that goddamned RS232-connection but nothing happens.

Brgds,

Hi FantasticN.
Some time ago I did this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbWiJuyCoN8 when I updated MOI with version 1.2, but you can see what's happening in proccess update.

I allways use usb-to-serial device to connect MOI (I have serial port on motherboard too), no problem with that, but first time I used a non full-modem cable, I couldn't see anything. Changing to a (tested) full-modem serial cable works well.
If is possible to you, check pin connections of your rs232-cable, must look like this
