TBS6921 problems

TBS6921 problems

Postby pjm » Wed Jan 26, 2011 2:37 pm

Well I finally was able to buy this, and I seem to have a few problems with it on Windows 7 64bit

My first problem is none of the supplied apps support my 22khz switch, they all seem limited to supporting DiSEqC switches, or no switch at all :(
Image

With the TBSViewer program the supplied remote is not detected and I can only use the keyboard
Image

Also the Optus C1/D3 frequencies were hopelessly out of date - I had to spend a long while updating the ini files so I could scan in all the frequencies.

The TPS IP tool doesn't work
Image

and neither does dvbdream!

I can't believe there are so many problems with this product on Windows 7 64 bit!

does the card work in any application at all? i'm asking. because error messages in TBSViewer and DVBDream suggest some hardware is not initialized properly due to most probably hardware fault. i don't want to speculate with that though, because it could be something else - not much information is provided like for example what's the status of the device in the Windows Device Manager. also, i believe remote control is not detected, because simply its VHID driver is not installed to the system, which also should be indicated in the Windows Device Manager and what's your switch exaclty - at least i don't know any type of switch that is not controlled by 22 kHz DiSEqC commands.

The card seems to be working fine, I've moved the main satellite to the non 22khz inputs for now, while I sort this out.
PROGDVB, MyTheatre and TBSViewer are working without the 22khz switching (but no remote control)

The drivers are loaded in device manager and all 3 I can find are showing as working properly

fwiw I also have a dual tuner DVB-T card installed, which also installs 2 BDA devices, so the DVB-S card is the 3rd BDA device in the system

also fwiw this is my NON diseqc 22khz multiswitch

also you might like to update the 1560.ini file for TBSViewer as follows for us Aussies:

Also I suggest you remove (or offer the option) to remove the "C:\ProgramData\CMUV\TBS Viewer" when you uninstall TBSViewer, so you can do a clean install next time without all the leftover settings which might have caused the problem that made you uninstall the program in the first place!

i guess it's possible somehow to control switch like the one you have, but since we haven't seen such device or have sample of it to do further investigation it's just better to use DiSEqC switch - there are models that offer the same functionality. also, i believe even we implement support for switch yours in the drivers - no software application supports working with such switch, which is another problem how to support it.

thanks for the transponder list - i'm sure what is pre-installed with the software is old and outdated.

it's good you confirmed that the card is working - all drivers seems properly installed. however, it's still unclear to me why the remote control is not functional, because VHID driver, which stands for "Virtual Human Input Device" makes the remote control like virtual keyboard, which means it will work with many application - even such not designed for DVB cards. so, if you test it in Windows 7 Media Center does it response to remote control events or no? if not, please, check if the battery are inserted correctly in the remote control unit and if IR receiver is connected to the card properly.

The multiswitch should surely just look like a single LNB to each tuner attached to one of the Rx ports. There's no switching involved other than normal selection of one of the four band/polarisation modes fed from a quattro LNB.

The 22khz setting being missing from the applications is very strange, all of the satellite receivers I've ever used support it.

The remote IS working in Windows Media Centre, so its strange that TBSViewer doesn't see it?

I'm not really worried about TPS IP, but whatever the problem is you should look at fixing it.

I would like to get DVBDREAM working though, so a few issues still remaining.

Seems to be all software issues, the hardware seems to be working fine.

@pjm,

jw300 is right, there should be no need to explicitly set 22kHz for the multiswitch, it is just used for switching between hi- and low-band which I believe is done automatically for most of the available software/hardware receivers on the market. You just connect the four outputs (VL,HL,VH,HH) of the LNB to the multiswitch and then each RX port is just like if you're using a LNB with 4 independent outputs without DiSEqC switch.

Anyway if you still want to set this manually for each channel, there is option in "Channel editor" under "Channel" menu in the main window. Once you open it and select a channel from the list on the left, on the right top corner you will see this:

Sofia, Bulgaria
TBS 6981 DVB-S/S2 | Triax TD88 | Inverto 0.2dB TWIN @ { 39E, 45E }
TBS 6921 DVB-S/S2 | Triax TD78 | Inverto 0.2dB TWIN @ { 0.8W }

what 22khz setting you're talking about - i really don't understand, because 22 kHz is used to
1) switch between low/high band for Universal LNBs
2) for sending DiSEqC commands

all application that support DiSEqC has 2) in some form and 1) happens automatically when Universal LNB is set as the LNB type in the application and before high-band transponder is tried to be acquired the application send request to the driver to turn on the 22 kHz tone output

i have no idea - maybe, i should check it by myself it could be some bug in the recent versions of TBSViewer.

pjm Wrote:I'm not really worried about TPS IP, but whatever the problem is you should look at fixing it.
that definitely need to be checked, because from your screenshot it seems something failed in TBS IP tool.

@jw300 and BluetoothBG

i don't know what kind of multi-switch device pjm owns, but at least DiSEqC multi-switches that have four different inputs for VL,HL,VH,HH doesn't operate in such simple way as you're suggesting and they in fact use DiSEqC commands to select between VL,HL,VH,HH ports, i can give you for example Kathrein EXR 2998 DiSEqC multi-switch, because it has good documentation available online:

http://www.kathrein.de/en/sat/products/doc/9363280b.pdf

and you can check page 5 of the above document to see what i mean about the DiSEqC commands. in any case i believe it depends mainly on the particular device in use and it's not some general rule.

I guess the difference between the "Universal LNB'" and the Multi Switch (that I'm using) is that there is no High & Low band. They can all be on the same band, and it is purely be selecting the 22khz tone for that satellite that the inputs are switched to it.

e.g. how it's is setup on a dreambox

Unfortunately I need to be able to set it up prior to scanning, so I can actually scan the channels into the program list in the first place :)
(otherwise there is no channel to be able to modify)
