If you only installed the TBS drivers (you can do this manually) you'd find that they wouldn't work until you copied over the dvb-core modules as well. I sympathize with TBS. It's not easy to get the v4l guys to accept code changes. It's much easier to just release your own git repo. The open source driver seems to load the firmware on the frontends only when the frontends are first accessed and not when loading the driver module.
