The biggest step on from there was getting MythTV to scan using the card. Took about 12 hours to work out what was wrong. I kept getting no transports or no channels found errors. Okay saw the other thread which says use ./v4l/tbs-x86_64.sh rather than ./tbs-x86_64.sh

Upgraded to 10.04.01 LTS which is kernel 2.6.32-27-generic and get exactly the same issue.
