Slow response from driver?

When I scan a transponder in my main application, the app freezes if the receiver can't lock on the frequency, and won't respond until some time-out expires. I have measured this at 27 seconds. When lock is achieved, the application remains responsive and completes the scan quickly.

Other applications are the same. Is this a driver issue? Is it necessary for the device to wait so long without responding?
