Documentation to set up Matrixtv with TBS 5881?

Postby sepinho » Sat Apr 12, 2014 11:56 pm

I've received my Matrix 2910 and the 5881 I ordered a few days ago. Installation of matrixtv was a breeze, XBMC runs great so far. But I'm wondering how to set up my 5881 for DVB-T or DVB-C Live TV with XBMC. Interrupting startup, I can enter your comfortable configurator menu, but then what? The DiSEqC configurator in particular has me dumbfounded. Where do I find information how to edit disqc.conf for DVB-T and/or DVB-C? Can I use one of the transponder lists in /usr/share for DBV-T in Berlin, Germany and/or Kabel Deutschland DVB-C? Is VDR or tvheadend running as tv backend by default?

I'm a bit at a loss here, I'm afraid. I have some linux know-how, I used to have a working VDR setup a few years ago, I just don't know where to start. Is there a comprehensive guide somewhere that I'm missing?

Looking forward to your replies and getting this fun little project to work! :)

FYI, I managed to get DVB-T working in XBMC with a little help from http://www.vdr-wiki.de (German), where I found a working channels.conf and information how to set up diseqc.conf. Next step: DVB-C.

Hi sepinho

The DVB-C or DVB-T's config is not very well now.
This week ,we will release a new version of MatrixTV,
When you are using DVB-S you can use the DIseqc config to set the satellite.
When you are using DVB-T or DVB-C you can use TVHeadend to config. :)

And in future we will add the DVB-T and DVB-C config for VDR. :)

Thanks

Kind Regards

steven

Thank you for the information, steven!

Well, I did get DVB-T to work with VDR (I suppose it's XVDR?). It was a simple matter of adding "T" to diseqc.conf and downloading a working channels.conf for my region into the correct folder. I haven't bothered with DVB-C yet, much less encrypted pay TV. I might hold off until you release the new MatrixTV. Can I update from the current version or will I have to re-flash the eMMC? I'd love to keep my settings. :)

The DVB-C or DVB-T's config is not very well now.

Steven: I bought the TBS2910 and TBS5881 with the intent to watch both free and paytv channels on DVB-C.
It appears that only VDR support hardware CAM descrambling so currently I have to use my laptop to stream to my Cubox-I.
It would be much more convenient to use the TBS2190 both for XBMC and VDR+DVB-C.
Do you think that the Matrix distribution will support this any time soon?

Hello all,

I just want to share my experience setting up the Matrix Mini PC with a DVB-T tuner.

Thanks to sepinho for some help. I faced a different challenge getting the channels.conf file because I was not able to find such a list for my country anywhere.

For anyone out there looking to configure the Matrix with a DVB-T tuner, I would suggest the following steps:

A. Run the w_scan command (http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/W_scan) to get the initial tuning data using the parameter « x ». This is the transponder file.

B. Run again the w_scan command using the previously generated transponder file as a parameter. Use the parameter « X » to generate the channels.conf file

C. Copy the channels.conf file to the following path: /etc/vdr/channels.conf

D. Reboot and interrupt the startup process. The configuration menu will appear

E. In the configurator menu select PVR (not tvheadend)

F. Reboot again into XBMC

G. install the PVR add-on and configure the options. Go to the main menu and select Live TV. You should see now the list of channels

Go to the following guide for the rest of your setup
The XBMC Live TV and PVR/DVR Setup Guide http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=PVR

I'm not able to setup DVB-C with 5881. I have a MatrixTv V21 Hardware and using TBS-MatrixTV-V1.0.1.0.zip from date 2014-09-03 as TBS-MatrixTV-V1.0.1.1.zip is corrupted. Connecting my tbs5881 on Ubuntu 14.04 and using the newest linux drivers provided by TBS tbs5881 is working. I wonder why tbs5881 is sold in combination with MatrixTV as it is not working and there is no hint that tbs5881 DVB-C is not working. See https://www.tbs-technology.de/shop/prod ... ucts_id=46 (

I copied the firmware from my debian-system to Matrixtv in /firmware/dvb-usb-tbsqbox-id5881.fw

dmesg shows the following on MatrixTV:

dvb-usb: found a 'TBS 5881 CI USB2.0' in cold state, will try to load a firmware
tbs5881: TBS5881 firmware init
tbs5881: start downloading TBS5881 firmware
dvb-usb: found a 'TBS 5881 CI USB2.0' in warm state.
dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
DVB: registering new adapter (TBS 5881 CI USB2.0)
dvb-usb: MAC address: 00:22:ab:b1:03:d5
tbs5881fe: demod attach failed
tbs5881: Attached TBS5881FE!

tbs5881: CI initialized.
tbs5881: CI disabled.
DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 5881 DVBC frontend)...

dvb-usb: schedule remote query interval to 150 msecs.
dvb-usb: TBS 5881 CI USB2.0 successfully initialized and connected.

But w_scan gives no result on Matrixtv

Is there a plan for an update on matrixtv with a working DVB-C for tbs-5881?
