tbs5680 not working on debian

Postby marianpopeanga » Tue Apr 02, 2013 9:31 am

Hi All,

I am a recent customer of tbs5680 external usb tunner. I have upgraded my linux kernel to 3.7.10 with DVB support.
I applied latest tbs patches for this card downloaded from the web site here.
The card is detected and the interface shows up.

The problem that i am facing is that no channel is detected, no matter what i do.

On the same box i also have vmware with Windows XP. From the vmware and windows, i am able to scan the channels and see thm, thought dvb dream or vlc.
So everything looks fine with the signal, it seems a problem related to the Linux OS in particular.

I even tried to tune the frequency in VLC with the ones found on Windows. Those channels don't open on linux.

The question that i have is: is linux supported and if so which kernel version should i use for those drivers.
Are there any knows issues?

Thanks,
Marian

oi vlc should never be used for tuning, its horrendous.

what application are you using to scan?

I have tried: scan, w_scan.

I am not sure why no channel is detected at the frequencies i saw on windows.

try scan-s2?

If you just want to test tuning, not scanning, then you can try my tune-s2 app

Sure. I'll try it. I just thought scan_s2 it is only for satelite connections, so i just looked briefly on it

I'll try also the tune_s2 tool.

The scan_s2 should work dvb-c? This is the normal way for this device to scan the channeles?

sorry my bad, I miss read the model number. Both those apps are for satellite.

There is no dvb-c here in NA so I havent a clue what apps to use.

It will be good if some developer can give some insight about those issues on Linux.
Are them expected ? On which kernel version this is supposed to work, I am wondering if there is some kernel setting that
prevents this to work correctly.
