Is this the right card for my usage ?

Is this the right card for my usage ?

Postby PaulJo » Wed Mar 09, 2016 1:49 am

Hi all,
I'm quite new to sat, so don't blame me too much please :) I'm thinking about installing a motorized dish with tbs6983
http://www.tbsdtv.com/products/tbs6983- ... -card.html , but first i was thinking about using a tbs69922se which is cheaper. I've no idea exactly what are ACM, VCM, Multi Input Stream, 16APSK,32APSK or Generic Stream Mode..
So my goal is to point on sat, then explore (scanning , crazyscan, blindscan) data (ip) feeds descending (dvb sniffing), mostly. Also exploring other things/freqs with data or other type of information. It's more an amateur goal for the fun of learning and scanning.

What card would you recommend please for this goal ?

If someone has some references about links, forums, docs, or hardware software also, i'll be more than happy.
I've a lot of questions too but here just want to get the right card for mys usage ?

Thanks !

I will try and answer that.
I have the older TBS 6925 that was replaced by 6983. What I like about 6925 is when scanning satellites
I can see what is TS(transport streams) and Generic streams.
TS is what DVB Apps know how to handle for watching video because of the packets are sent in 188 bytes. example: VLC, MPC,POtplayer, Mplayer
You will also see data streams on TS ( ACM, VCM, Multi Input Stream)
but even more data on Generic streams ACM, VCM, Multi Input Stream.
The generic streams can have frames that are different sizes with 188 byte packets of TS encapsulated
inside of each frame. You would need a commercial receiver to filter and sort all that out.

Good news is the TBS 6983 can lock all of these if you have a good enough dish.
And 6983 can even lock lower Symbol rates than my TBS 6925 and its USB sister (5925)

I was thinking about getting a replacement to 6925. If not 6983 maybe 6905,6908

As far as TBS tbs6922se that is a good card too. If you wanted to save some money.
then later on get a card that can do MIS.
Or get TBS 5980 (USB) or TBS 5922se (USB) then take Laptop and USB card out to dish to do fine tuning.

6983 is absolute hit 2015 for feedhunters, DX'ers and another maniacs :) Now replaced with 6903 - same tuner/demod, but FPGA-based PCIE-bridge.
TBS 6905 is good quad-tuner card with broadcast version same tuner/demod, and same price as 6983/6903.

Single-tuner card is deprecated because dual-tuner now have same price. So you can buy now 6902 instead 6922SE (same tuner/demod chips).
