TBS6983 works only from 144MHz up to 1999MHz (win driver)

Hello,

I have tested my TBS6983 I have just received.
using win driver v1.0.0.7

I use my own DVB modulator (Dektec DTA107A for standard freq and a Rhode and Schwarz SMIQ03 for testing all frequencies from 100 MHz up to 3 GHz)

software used : Transedit

about low Symbolrate:
- my TBS6983 can receive my signal at SR 250kS/s but cannot work at SR 125 kS/s . There is something to improve.

about frequencies
- my TBS6983 can receive from 144 MHz up to 1999 MHz
impossible to receive above 2000 MHz
>> The Datasheet says that the STV6120 chip can receive from 143.75 MHz up to 2.3 GHz
>> the L band is supposed to go up to 2150 MHz, so there is a part of the L band that my TBS6983 cannot receive ( 2000 to 2150 Mhz)
( if we want to know the transponder satellite frequencies we cannot receive, we add the LNB freq 10600 MHz so if some transponder are on freq above 12600 MHz, it is impossible to receive them)

It would be very strange that STV6120 chip has an issue on these frequencies, so I suppose that this is a bug in the BDA driver.

What setting do you use on the SMIQ? Is it possible to get a DVB-S like signal using the internal IQ generator?

Thanks to crazycat I have mine working from 250MHz to 2460MHz (I don't think the top end is reliable, 2400 is a safer maximum)
I can't get it to go below 250MHz but that may be due to my lack of understanding of streamreader.ini parameters
The response is not very flat but I would not expect that.

Where did you find 143.75 MHz up to 2.3 GHz in the STV data sheet? I could only see 250-2150MHz in the openly available one.

Hello Dave,

For the SMIQ, I don't use the internal QPSK generator, I use a RapberryPi with the soft RpiDATV from F5OEO that gives me IQ (http://www.vivadatv.org/viewforum.php?f=75) and a filter I have developped(http://www.vivadatv.org/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=439). I send the I and Q signal to the SMIQ in vector modulation mode.
I can get a MER of 31dB using MInitioune software. http://www.vivadatv.org/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=465( I am working now for adapting the Minitioune software to the TBS6983) Minitioune doesn't use at all BDA or BDAextender driver, but specific driver I develop myself.

If you read the full datasheet of STV6120 you can see that freq VCO works from 2300MHz up to 4600 MHz, the LO divisor can be 2,4,8 or 16.
so if we can use the setting 2300/16 = 143.75 MHz
so I have tested 144 MHz or 145 MHz ( HamRadio band) and it works very well, my TBS6983 receive it without problem.

The standard BDA driver seems to not accept freq above 1999 MHz. If you use crazytcat tools, I suppose that the use of extended BDA command can open the upper segment.

CrazyScan, EBS Pro use my StreamReaderEx-BDA for DVB device access. And StreamReaderEx-BDA control devices via tuner/demod I2C-access (use vendor-specific driver calls, including Technotrend BDA drivers).
