Will the 6908 be included in Linux closed source drivers?

Postby wdirksen » Thu Dec 01, 2016 8:27 am

Hello anyone,

I use a 6984 and 6985 with MythTV with FFdecsawrapper in Linux. Until now the closed source drivers work perfect in both ArchLinux and Centos 7 with this setup. I recently bought a 6908 to replace the 6985 which has always worked but has never been reliable in Linux or under Windows. I discovered that the 6908 only has open source drivers at this time. Which is a problem since the FFdecsawrapper dvbloopback module is not compiling with the open source driver.

Will the 6908 be included in the Linux closed source driver package sometime?

I'm not sure what "semi closed source" means. But I have managed to find a fix as the open source driver package does work with current Arch Linux but not CentOS 7. So I have done a rebuild on my main server from CentOS back to Arch Linux and the 6908 is up and running fine with MythTV and FFdecsawrapper. Now to avoid temptation to update Arch as this is when Arch can get unreliable as a server.
