TBS 6205 error rates?

TBS 6205 error rates?

Postby squirrelpie » Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:33 am

I have a TBS 6205 that seems to be running happily under Linux (Opensuse 15.0) with the open source driver. I use it with TVHeadend.

When I look at Status / Stream in the TVHeadend web UI, I see quite different error rates for the four tuners (see attached image). The error rate for tuner #2 is much worse than for the other tuners, so I don't think this is a question of poor signal but rather it is some feature/artefact of the card itself.

I don't know whether this is something to be concerned about or not. I have no idea what a normal or acceptable error rate is. I haven't found any stated specification of the card's error rates. I don't know if there are any ways to get more information. Can anybody advise whether this is normal?

Look like only first demod tuned and receive some stream. Another not tuned and frontend driver show "some garbage" in BER/UCB :)

Hi squirrelpie,
Can your channels work well? did you try test in a VLC media player, you can try open several channels which comes from different
tuners/adpters at the same time.

Tvheadend is http stream out, and for http protocol, a request is aksed by a terminal, then channel will be started to stream, and also you will see some indication "bandwidth kb/s", "SNR", "signal strength".

Any question please write back again.

Thanks

Thanks guys. Sorry for the late reply - I was expecting a notification but didn't realize I needed to set it up explicitly.

I'm just beginning to understand what the display is showing me. I hadn't realized that when a tuner is in use it shows live data during that session, but when the tuner is not in use it shows cumulative errors. So the data in that snapshot was a bit confusing.

I also hadn't realized that TVHeadend apparently always selects tuner #3 for the first subscription, tuner #2 for the second and so on. So naturally the cumulative totals are bigger for the higher-numbered tuners.

So here are two more snapshots. The first with all tuners in use, and the second with none. I don't understand the forum software well enough to make it pretty. All the channels work and the totals are more consistent, although not completely.

Hi,
Yes, Tvheadend is http out, and as i told you before: for http protocol, it should have a request coming, and then stream/channel will start to output. So when you play channel in a VLC player (VLC is the http request), streaming is start and also you can see the data indication "SNR", "bnadwidth", and etc.
And when it's no request/no terminal playing channel, no data output. This is the http protocol working principle. And these indication you can Google, i think you can get it what will each indication stand for. If you want to do more futher study, you can try write to Tvheadend company.
Actually there're lots of streaming software under Linux platform, like DVBlast, Astra cesbo, mumuDVB, VDR, and ect. If Tvheadend not good, you can try another.

Thanks
