New OSS driver and MythTV

New OSS driver and MythTV

Postby jonas » Sun Oct 22, 2017 9:51 pm

I want to upgrade to a newer kernel, because I will need to move to 16.04 Ubuntu anyway somwhen.

With this, the old, closed source drivers do not compile anymore (had some from November 15), but the new ones do.

When running MythTV, however, neither tuning nor channel scanning do work. I get these error message:

"Auto bandwidth detection not supported by this driver"
"Selected modulatio n parameter unsupported by this driver"

Is there something wrong with my setup or are the drivers not yet ready for MythTV?

Thanks in advance

The issue is simply that the old driver was at compile time locked at DVB-C, and the new driver is not.

I don't know how to tell the new driver to do DVB-C instead of DVB-T.

A hint would be appreciated.

Hello Steve,

thanks for your quick answer. Especially tvheadend seems to be an interesting tool.

Meanwhile I found out that selecting the delivery system is not supported by MythTV, but you can switch it with the command

dvb-fe-tool -a 0 -d DVBC/ANNEX_A

in the start script. This must be done for all configured 6205 adapters, obviously. I will try this this evening.

I found it here:
https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/13014
https://forum.mythtv.org/viewtopic.php?t=2052

Maybe you add a hint to dvb-fe-tool and MythTV in the PDF for the next one stepping into this.

Many thanks.

Hello Steve,

DVB-C delivery system selection with dvb-fe-tool in the MythTV Backend startup script worked. Seems all stable so far.

I tried also tvheadend that is mentioned in the PDF, but this errors with:

linuxdvb: TurboSight TBS 6205 DVB-T/T2/C : DVB-C #0 - failed to tune [e=Invalid argument]

It seems to be a bug known by the tvheadend people, but neither the Ubuntu package nor the git version was able to fix that.

That is not problem for me since I plan to stick to MythTV anyway and was just curious regarding tvheadend.

So, many thanks and all is well :)
