TBS 6902 DiseqC Motor issues

TBS 6902 DiseqC Motor issues

Postby Kotik » Tue Oct 18, 2016 6:23 am

Hello,

Overall i am happy and pleased with the performance of my new TBS 6902 card but it has one major issue with DiseqC motor and i hope that someone can help me.

The issue is that the card will not properly switch from some channels on one satellite to some other channels to another satellite. The bug is not happening on all the channels but it does happen between specific channels and i am able to reproduce it all the time with no issues. The issue appears in both MediaPortal and ProgDVB

Here are the channel frequencies (keep in mind that these are some of the channel frequencies that are not working).

I got right now 3 satellites stored in my motor memory 13.0E, 16.0E, and 19.2E

Keep in mind that the dish is moving always correctly (i know it cause i am doing my testing while being next to the dish).

On 19.2E i got the frequency:
12480 V DVB-S
MPEG-2 27500
3/4

On 16.0E i got the frequencies:
12633 V DVB-S
MPEG-2 4883
1/2

and

11512 V DVB-S2
8PSK 29950
2/3

On 13.0E i got the frequency:
11034 V DVB-S
MPEG-2 27500
3/4

Any channel switch between 13.0E to/from 16.0E will work 100%

19.2E 12480 V DVB-S MPEG-2 27500 3/4 -------> 13.0E 11034 V DVB-S MPEG-2 27500 3/4 -NOT WORKING-
13.0E 11034 V DVB-S MPEG-2 27500 3/4 -------> 19.2E 12480 V DVB-S MPEG-2 27500 3/4 -WORKING-
19.2E 12480 V DVB-S MPEG-2 27500 3/4 -------> 16.0E 12633 V DVB-S MPEG-2 4883 1/2 -WORKING-
16.0E 12633 V DVB-S MPEG-2 4883 1/2 -------> 19.2E 12480 V DVB-S MPEG-2 27500 3/4 -WORKING-
19.2E 12480 V DVB-S MPEG-2 27500 3/4 -------> 16.0E 11512 V DVB-S2 8PSK 29950 2/3 -NOT WORKING-
16.0E 11512 V DVB-S2 8PSK 29950 2/3 -------> 19.2E 12480 V DVB-S MPEG-2 27500 3/4 -WORKING-

When the channel switch fails if i then switch to another transponder on the same satellite it will work, it is as if the card is unable to properly lock into the new frequency or it is locking to a wrong frequency.

There are more channels that are not working and then there are many channels that just work and on satellites that are many more degrees apart.

In MediaPortal i when the switch fails i am getting a No PMT Found error, in ProgDVB i am not getting any error, i just get a black screen with no sound and the signal indicator is showing good signal strengh and quality so i guess it is also unable to find any PMT.

The way i see it the card is either locking to a totally wrong frequency or is locking to the right one too early when there signal is too low to properly parse PMT data. In any case this prevents me from using the card and i just bought it 1 week ago.

I previously had a SkyStar HD2 and it was working with my motor with no issues.

I am using the latest ProgDVB and also using latest MediaPortal with or without the TBS patch (doesn't make any difference) + latest TBS drivers v1.0.0.3, i tried the previous version of drivers v1.0.0.2 and had the same results. I also tried both tuners that 6902 has and both got the same issue.

I will be glad to offer u TeamViewer access with the specific channel in a channel list for u to test.

I really would like the issue to be resolved as this is a show stopper for me.

Thanx in advance.

Hi Kotik

For our tuner card Diseqc we just provide the interface ,the control is the DVBSoft ,it will tell us which Diseqc command ,
and which frequence to lock ,if the interface is ok then need to check the soft .

And maybe you can have a try with our latest OEM-DVBDream:
http://www.tbsiptv.com/download/common/ ... p_v291.zip

Check whether is ok

Thanks

Kind Regards

Hello Steven,

I did try latest DVBDream and there everything is working, but the issue remains in the rest programs that i want to use.

And i really want to point out whats is going on. TBS 6902 will lock to any similar/identical frequency instantly if it meets one without checking if the Lock On is stable.

So in other words, when the motor is moving to a frequency and at the same time the tuner is instructed to Tune to a specific frequency, the TBS will report a successful Lock On even while the dish is still moving.

This is happening cause the tuner Lock On sensitivity time out is set to LOW, which means the tuner will instantly try to lock on to a frequency without making sure that the LockOn is still available after 100ms or 200ms.

This explains why many channels will not work when i switch from satellite to satellite, if a similar frequency is available the tuner will lock to it while the dish is still moving.

The reason why DVBDream is working is because i think DVBDream will provide tuning details to the tuner AFTER the motor movement is finished while all the other programs that i tested will provide these details to the tuner together with the gotox command.

To confirm this i added a new satellite far away from the rest 35.9E and calculated how many second my motor needs to move from 35.9E to 19.2E, the result is 12 seconds. Then i started MP and switch from a channel that is on 35.9E to a channel that is on 19.2E just to see when MediaPortal will report a Lock On in its log files. After reading the log files i can confirm that my theory is correct. TBS will report a LOCK ON 5 seconds after the GoToX command is sent:

[2016-10-18 13:00:41,878] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - DiSEqC: goto position 3
and then around 5 seconds later
[2016-10-18 13:00:45,753] [Log ] [20 ] [INFO ] - dvb: LockInOnSignal ok
after that MediaPortal will start looking for PMT
[2016-10-18 13:00:45,769] [Log ] [20 ] [DEBUG] - WaitForPMT: Waiting for PMT 6C
and this of course will result in error
[2016-10-18 13:00:55,770] [Log ] [20 ] [DEBUG] - WaitForPMT: Timed out waiting for PMT after 10.0010931 seconds. Increase the PMT timeout value?
cause the dish already moved further and TBS is still locked ON.

This proves that the tuner reports a sucesfull Lock On exactly 5 seconds after the GoToX command is sent, and since we know that the full duration to move from 35.9E to 19.2E is 12 seconds u can understand that the Lock On is happening during movement and on a random frequency that is similar to the one we actually want.

This also explains why tuning to a different channel on the same transponder will not work, cause the tuner still thinks that it is Locked On on that transponder.

Steven what can be done regarding this issue? I bought the card so i can use it inside MediaPortal and if it doesn't work there then i cannot use it.

Is it possible to lower the lock on timings or implement an automatic re lock feature on the driver level?

Thanx in advance.

Steven the issue is not the diseqc commands the issue is that TBS 6902 will not respect tune parameters, below u will find info regarding the issue.

From
36.0E 12690.00 H DVB-S QPSK 1450 5/6
To
19.2E 12480.00 H DVB-S QPSK 27500 3/4
Will always fail, the reason.........
31.5E 12480.00 V DVB-S2 8PSK 30000 3/4

I started looking into more channels that fail, and I could always find satellites in between that had the same frequency, as a result the tuner will lock into it without checking the rest of the tune parameters. As I wrote previously the tuner will lock 5 seconds after the gotox command, well now I know why, cause 5 seconds later the dish is moving through 31.5E where the same frequency exists, and since the tuner ignores symbol rate values, polarization values and modulation it will lock to the completely wrong channel while the dish is still moving.

TBS 6092 is ignoring any other tuning parameter that are being sent to the tuner from the DVB application. Can u confirm this? Is this a normal behavior for TBS 6902 or is this a bug?

Can it be fixed?

Hi Kotik

Thanks for your detail feedback ,the problem still the DVB soft .

As our card just a device we just accpet command why DVBDream works this is because when you use goto Diseqc command
it do not send lock message to our driver it wait your dish finished the move then send command to lock .

for other soft once send the diseqc to move the dish then send command to lock our card will lock it immediately .

Thanks

Kind Regards

Hi Steven,

Thank you for your reply, I am currently working with Media Portal developers to delay the tune request and resolve the issue.

An update regarding this issue.

It is resolved with a patch in MediaPortal, currently MediaPortal will calculate a dynamic delay and send the "Tune" command based on this delay.

So i am happy:) Thank you for your information and time and keep up the good work.
