Best Linux kernel for MultiStandard USB Tuner ?

Best Linux kernel for MultiStandard USB Tuner ?

Postby wlgrinfeld » Mon Mar 26, 2018 3:50 am

I tried to install the TBS 5580 with the Open Source driver (http://www.tbsdtv.com/download/document ... 06.tar.bz2) on 3.13.0-106-generic (Yavdr).
That made my older TBS 5881 USB devices stop working, the 5580 did not seem to work either.

Then I installed a new OS : 4.13.0.36-generic (Lubuntu 16.04.4) on a laptop and tried the Open Source driver with that one.
Here, /dev/dvb does not even get created - a problem that likely occurs because the O/S is too new.

The USB card does work to some extend under Windows 10 (could not get the CAM to work) where DVB-C provided a correct picture.

So, what Linux kernel works with what version of the Open Source Drivers as well as the 5580 ?

Hi

Please have a try with kernel 4.4 or 4.6 or 4.8

and use this steps :
#wget http://www.tbsdtv.com/download/document ... 06.tar.bz2
# sudo rm -rf /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/media/
#tar jxvf media_build-2018-0206.tar.bz2
#cd media_build
#./install.sh
#reboot

Thanks

Kind Regards

I had a try with EasyVDR 3.5 (Kernel 4.4) and the open source drivers . Indeed the 5580 then works.
However, the 5881 then no longer works: it gives a signal, but no picture.
The 5881 only seems to work with the closed drivers.
