PC freezes when using two tuners concurrently.

PC freezes when using two tuners concurrently.

Postby mattb » Sat May 08, 2010 5:28 pm

Hello,

When using a TBS6980 with Windows Media Center, the PC hard freezes after a time if using both tuners concurrently. It's a hard-freeze where I have to hold down the power button to power off, then power on again. Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work.

As a result, we have to be careful to only have one program record at a time, and not to watch a second channel whilst a first is being recorded - which defeats the purpose of a dual tuner!

I have tried both with and without the extra power-connector.

The PC is a Dell PowerEdge 830, running Windows 7 64bit.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt.

Hi Matt,

I have the exact same problem, PC hard locks when using both tuners.

I send a e-mail to support on Friday, waiting for their reply.

Sometimes I get a BSOD, with a 9C error.

Windows XP.

No BSOD here, but sounds identical otherwise. Please post back here if you hear anything.

Thanks,
Matt.

Hi Matt,

Below is the mail I sent to support, I've attached it to see if you are getting any of the same: -

the problem is that my PC locks hard or BSOD with a 0x0000009c within 48 Hrs. Each failure only happens when both tuners are active, it does not seem to matter which channels the card is tuned into for it to fail (dvb-s2 OR dvb-S), and it does not happen every time both tuners are active.

I had the PC running for 8 months before these current failures, I removed the card and installed two other tuners, the PC did not crash for the whole week while the other tuners were installed.

I’ve checked power and temperature and don’t see a power rail drop or high temperature reading when the PC crashed (used speed fan to log the voltage and tempature, it does not have a temperature reading for the 6980 card), I even ran a memory test program for 24 hours without any failures.

I have windows xp with driver V1.0.0.13 installed.

Below are some of the events seen in the windows event logs, below are 2 bugcheck logs, 6 tbs6980 warnings which were followed by an Application Popup.

I too had this issue (along with a number of others). Installing the beta 2 drivers for this card solved the problem.

The question for TBS is, when will the beta 2 drivers be made final and distributed?

I have been sent beta driver 2.0.0.1 this morning and so far so good, no crashes, the test is tonight, I have four recording scheduled at the same time (2 then 2), this means 2 hours that both tuners are in use.

it's confirmed from all customers that reported the problem to euro_support@tbsdtv.com that the beta versions like 2.0.0.1 fix the problem completely.

so, anyone that is experiencing similar problem, please try version 2.0.0.1, which i uploaded here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/386776663/t ... 1.rar.html

also, please, it would be helpful for us to post more information here, because it seems the problem happens only on some computer.

Have 2.0.0.0 which seemed to solve the problem for me.

Does the remote control function with 2.0.0.1?

I seem to be getting a similar problem, no BSOD but a hard freeze with W7 32bit, ATI or NVIDEA when recording two channels especially if one is in HD. Using 1.0.0.13 drivers. Unfortunately, the above link has expired can anyone post the beta drivers at an alternative download site.

I do not have 2.0.0.1 but I found a link for the following:

DRIVER 2.0.0.0
http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/communi ... ile&id=251

Did test this on DVBProg and it was able to run two tuners at the same time. With DVBdream, I have not yet seen a way to run two tuners. One has to manually start each one which shuts the other off.
