Power TBS6209

Postby starman » Tue Feb 04, 2025 7:19 pm

Hello! I am experiencing an issue with my TBS6209 tuner (non-SE model) when attempting to use its additional 12V power input. Here are the details:

Setup:

Tuner: TBS6209 (early model, not the SE version).

PSU: Fractal Design Ion+ Platinum.

Motherboard: MSI B560M Mortar (PCIe x16 slot).

Usage Scenario: DVB-C signal reception.

Issue:
When connecting the additional 12V power cable to the tuner’s dedicated port, the PSU immediately triggers its protection mechanism and shuts down. This does not occur when using a lower-tier PSU (tested with a generic unit).

Questions:

What could cause the Fractal Design Platinum PSU to trip its protection when the additional 12V power is connected?

Does the TBS6209 require additional 12V power for stable operation with DVB-C signals, or can it function reliably via PCIe slot power alone?

If additional power is optional, does disabling it impact signal quality, multituner functionality, or decoding performance?

Thank you for your assistance!

Hi Sir,

Usually do not need to use the extra power, just in case the power from PCIE slot not enough , if without the extra power
you can get lock with DVBC signal then do not need to use it
it will not impact signal quality.

About the issue make sure the cable connection is right maybe miss the cable order .

Thanks
