Freeze!!

I need some help here, I have the TBS 6981 card & for some reason when i try to scan (no matter what program WMC, DBviewer, TBSviewer) it freezes the PC. When the satellite cables are NOT connected scanning on all software works fine although it's without saying no signal is picked up. Is there an explanation as to why this happens? All software acknowledge the card but fail to complete a full scan when cables are connected!
I have used the latest drivers but this seems to make things worst so I've reverted back to the drivers that came with the card on the CD. The Satellite dish is set up for Sky HD, is there any correlation between the two? I never had a problem with other satellite cards!

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Motherboard: Gygabyte GA-73PVM-S2H
CPU: Intel Core Duo E8400 3.Ghz
Ram: Corsair DDR2 5400 2 x 1.Ghz
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon HD 5700
Hard drive : Western Digital WDC WD3200JB-00KFA0 ATA
PSU: 600w
TV card: Compro T500

Thank you

I do have a 600w PSU to power my system & I have connected the 4pin adapter to the card so it receives a good source of power, the card works fine without the satellite cables connected & that’s the puzzle!
I've been looking into the motherboard issue too, I have a second motherboard that I may try but have been looking at the Asrock models, has anybody got any info as far as compatability issues with Asrock M/B's TBS cards?

Jaycee i have exactly the same issue with my setup.
If i scan for channels in any software it hangs the machine. Without the Sat cable attached it scans but doesn't find anything (obviously)
I too saw the posts on power but my rig has a 900W PSU and the power connector is attached incase it was a power thing to the card.
My mobo is an Intel S5000PSL and i've updated bios, firmwares etc

To make sure the card was not dead i installed it in a "spare" PC with an ASRock Mobo and it works fine, no scan issues or freezes.

I'll keep testing with my hardware but it's puzzling me.

I decided to buy a new motherboard for my PC because i felt the old one had a few issuses, I was proven right coz the card works very well with the new board. Been running test with the card during the week and had no glitches, crashes or software-hardware difficulties.
If anyone's experiencing the problems i faced then maybe a new board's in order, I decided to go for an Asrock board, I have two in other PC's and they've not let me down. Give the Asrock G31M-GS R2.0 a look, it's small but does what it says on the tin!!!

Soz for late reply, didn't realize a post was made but yeah I've kept all the other components, fitted them to the Asrock board with no probs whatsoever. I kind of knew it was the old motherboard that was givin me jip!

Hi,

I have the same freeze problem, but only after I changed to my new mainboard.
Before with my EPOX 9NPA+ and Athlon 64 X2 4000+ the card worked fine, but with the new mainboard (Asrock M3A UCC) + Athlon II X2 260 it freezes after 2 - 5 minutes into a recording.
I already removed all other cards and even disconnected my IDE Drives (I was suspecting a faulty IDE cable), but to no avail. Even switching to the power supply of my gaming rig (Intel I7 with two Ati Radeon 4750) didn't help. I just switched back to my trusty old Technisat Skystar 2 and it works.

It seems the TBS6981 incompatible with my new mainboard or it's just on edge. I'll try it in my gaming rig and see if i can get it to work there.
I might have to send the card back since it's no use to me if it doesn't run in my PVR system. :(

Regards
Aydan
