i cant help with your exact issues, but for me, it was a case of the following:
install mythbuntu 10.10 (2.6.35-22 kernel)
configure LIRC for the mceusb device during the mythbuntu install
disable ubuntu repos (without updates; if you do update, ensure the linux kernel headers are NOT being updated)
install TBS drivers (im currently on the 20101024 dated drivers)
reboot
keep existing LIRC, and download lirc 0.8.7 from LIRC website, and install that over the existing LIRC install. (you will need to 'apt-get install dialog' to compile it)
final reboot and it works again.

TBS is working on Linux driver for kernel 3.x and estimated release time will be late September. The new release will support Linux kernel 3.x also older kernels down to version 2.6.31. it will not only add support for Linux kernel 3.x, but it should resolve any remote control issues in case there are such with any other kernel in the range 2.6.31 to 3.0.3. TBS is re-working everything remote control related.

well thats good news.
i'd like things to be fully working for mythtv 0.25 (a while off i think though), and i believe it will need a later kernel (as that in *buntu 11.04)

out of curiosity, where did you hear that info from, okbet?

Hi Team,

I just bought a TBS 6981 and installed linux-tbs-drivers_111017.zip on my Ubuntu 11.10 x64 as described in the README.

The "make install" seems to replace a lot of kernel modules and "forgets" to replace lirc_serial.ko which is now not loading anymore because of missing symbols.

Code: Select All Code
[    8.810971] lirc_serial: module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you have been warned.
[    8.811153] lirc_serial: disagrees about version of symbol lirc_register_driver
[    8.811158] lirc_serial: Unknown symbol lirc_register_driver (err -22)

My remote is dead now :-(

How can I fix the situation? I have a IR receiver on ttyS0 (Atric IR Einschalter). Is there perhaps a new module I have to select instead of lirc_serial?

Thanks
Roland

EDIT: Ok, after restoring lirc_dev.ko from backup my remote works again (I do not need the IR part of the dvb card). Anyway, please fix your installation regarding this module. Thanks.

The story is continuing on Ubuntu 12.04.1 (kernel 3.2.0-31) and with latest tbs-drivers (tvs-linux-drivers_v120827):
Code: Select All Code
[   12.139361] lirc_serial: module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you have been warned.
[   12.139487] lirc_serial: disagrees about version of symbol lirc_register_driver
[   12.139489] lirc_serial: Unknown symbol lirc_register_driver (err -22)

The native kernel's lirc modules have been working OK just before tbs-drivers installation. Restoring lirc_dev.ko (and lirc_serial together or/and separately) from kernel's modules backup does not help

Same as roland79, I do not need the IR part of the dvb card.

So, I just wonder, is there any posibility to do not touch the native kernel's IR-RC part, while compiling and installing tbs-drivers???

The best solution is, ofcourse, to make tbs-drivers really "open source" ones...
