For anyone installing this on a plain Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS (not Mythbuntu), please make sure you run the ./configure with the correct path.
So, find this line:
./configure --dvb-dir=/usr/local/src/linux-tbs-drivers
And replace the path with the location to your *PATCHED* drivers, not the ones you copied to /usr/local/src, as the tutorial suggested. Once you've done that, continue with the this tutorial and you should have no problems. Otherwise, you will get that modprobe invalid data error.
Hope this helps someone because it took me hours to figure out!
BTW: I'm using this on a computer with 2 x TBS6984 and it's working so far.
