Tuner order changing under 18.4 Ubuntu

Postby Drifting » Tue Dec 11, 2018 9:27 pm

Hi
Please bear with me on this as I am partially sighted.
I have spent hours following instructions on how to keep my tuner cards in the same order after each reboot. Both of my cards are TBS, one is a 6281SE the other 6982.
Read that I could add a dvb.conf to modprobe.d which I tried.
options tbsecp3 adapter_nr=0,1
options saa716x_tbs-dvb adapter_nr=2,3
Which did nothing? so either I have the driver names wrong? or something else?
Started to read about Udev, but there was so much confusing contrary information, that after nearly 6hrs of on and off reading when my eyes allowed, I just had to give up.

So where do I go from here? I am at a complete loss. Any help would really be appreciated.

Paul.

I am getting pretty confused by Udev, cannot really understand what is needed. Can someone please help me create the right udev rules needed to fix the order that these card work in? Using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Myth .29 fully patched.

Hi

which driver you are using ? if you are using open source driver please use this one :
vi /etc/modprobe.d/dvb.conf
options saa716x_core adapter_nr=0,1
options tbsecp3 adapter_nr=2,3

Thanks

Kind Regards

Hi Steven

Thank you for the reply.
I followed your instructions, thought it had solved it till I cold booted the server, and the order changed again!
drivers I am using, tbs-open-linux-drivers_v180822.zip I believe that is the open source one?

Hi Steven
Thanks again for taking the time to help, really appreciated.

This morning the boot order came up the same as it did after the cold boot last night:-

[ 3.715538] TBSECP3 driver 0000:30:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6281SE DVB-T/T2/C )...
[ 3.837317] SAA716x Budget 0000:20:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 2 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6982SE DVB-S/S2)...
[ 3.865769] TBSECP3 driver 0000:30:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 1 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6281SE DVB-T/T2/C )...
[ 4.144865] SAA716x Budget 0000:20:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 3 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6982SE DVB-S/S2)...

This is what I have in dvb.conf :-

cat /etc/modprobe.d/dvb.conf
options tbsecp3 adapter_nr=0,1
options saa716x_core adapter_nr=2,3

Powered it off again, pulled power, turned back on, and the same result:-

[ 3.816541] TBSECP3 driver 0000:30:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6281SE DVB-T/T2/C )...
[ 3.914592] SAA716x Budget 0000:20:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 2 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6982SE DVB-S/S2)...
[ 3.984506] TBSECP3 driver 0000:30:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 1 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6281SE DVB-T/T2/C )...
[ 4.224809] SAA716x Budget 0000:20:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 3 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6982SE DVB-S/S2)...

This has been working great, just updated the Ubuntu and now for some reason all my cards are detected as the same? Huh?

[ 7.613301] SAA716x Budget 0000:02:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 2 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6280 DVB-T/T2/C)...
[ 7.650023] SAA716x Budget 0000:02:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 3 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6280 DVB-T/T2/C)...
[ 8.407940] SAA716x Budget 0000:03:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6982SE DVB-S/S2)...
[ 8.736630] SAA716x Budget 0000:03:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 1 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6982SE DVB-S/S2)...

Should be like this :-

[ 3.816541] TBSECP3 driver 0000:30:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6281SE DVB-T/T2/C )...
[ 3.914592] SAA716x Budget 0000:20:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 2 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6982SE DVB-S/S2)...
[ 3.984506] TBSECP3 driver 0000:30:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 1 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6281SE DVB-T/T2/C )...
[ 4.224809] SAA716x Budget 0000:20:00.0: DVB: registering adapter 3 frontend 0 (TurboSight TBS 6982SE DVB-S/S2)...

What on earth is going on? Any help really appreciated.

Paul.

Oh my, so sorry I am a complete idiot. Just found out my Grandson changed the tuner, he throught he was being helpful as the last one died.
So different question, how on earth to I get the other to stay stable now? as they all use the SAA716x
