6984 tuner D drops packets

6984 tuner D drops packets

Postby rod » Tue Apr 23, 2019 3:33 am

One of the tuners (tuner D) on my 6984 is dropping packets and is basically unusable. The other 3 tuners, A, B and C, all work reasonably well.

On testing with TBS IPData on 28.2E 10773H, all tuners appear to work correctly (strength 72-75, quality 75 on all tuners, including D), though signals are at the low end of acceptable (I live right on the edge of the FreeSat footprint).

However, the Transedit analyser shows tuner D dropping a high number of packets on all transponders, even high-powered TPs like 12207V at 28.2E; reception on tuners A-C is perfect, with no dropped packets at all.

I have, of course, changed all the cables and connected different tuners to different outputs on the multiswitch, but the results are the same.

I also have a 6928 on the same multiswitch in the same computer. The 6928 consistently shows much better readings on IPData than all tuners on the 6984 – for example 92 strength, 78 quality for 10773H. Is this normal?

Here is my setup: I route three Quattro LNBs through an EMP Centauri Profi Class multiswitch. The LNBs point at, respectively, 28.2E on DiseqC A, 19.2E on DiseqC B and 13.0E on DiseqC C. Four of the outputs of the multiswitch go to the 6984; another output goes to the 6928 which I use for enecrypted Italian channels on 13.0E. I also use a 6280 for terrestrial signals.
All tuner cards are installed on a Gigabyte F2A88X-D3HP with an AMD A10-5700 CPU, running DVBViewer under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. All 6-pin 12-volt connectors are fed directly from the Enermax 700W power supply.

What I need to know is whether there is a fix for the defective tuner, or whether I should consider replacing the card, since all tuners on there appear to underperform with respect to the 6928? Thanks for any advice.

Thanks Steven. That's what I was afraid of. I was hoping there might be a possible repair, but not with great optimism. Thanks anyway.
