All diseqc are sent the same way, so if you can control even a simple 4x1 then the driver is working and its the application at fault for not sending the correct commands.

If the DiSEqC 1.2 positioner is accepting commands...which it does with your set top box, and your USB receiver is sending DiSEqC commands which you say it is by switching your DiSEqC switch then there is something wrong. Are you sure Your DiSEqC switch is switching ? How did you test it?
DvbDream allows to send raw DiSEqC commands in the positioner menu, have you tried that?

It works great with a 4x1 switch. I have a 85cm Ku band dish and the 2.3M Cband dish. Using DVB Viewer and the TBS5922 (or the TBS 5980) I can switch between both dishes fine. I've also tried windows 7 x64 as well but it didn't make any difference. I assume the TBS USB tuner is sending out the singals its just not moving the dish.

So i know the USB tuner is sending out the DiSEqC signals and the Openbox x5 can control the Cband motor no problem.

I haven't tried DVB dream for awhile. But I do like DVB Viewer alot.

Do you think a new positioner would fix this problem , there isn't much else left to try.

I can send raw DiSEqc singals from EBS Pro as well?
Is it possible that the singals are just too weak or not within spec? I have no way of testing or knowing what what they should be anyway.

Just an update. I bought a new positioner. I can now move the dish using the PC. But it's not reliable. It works for some stored positions and not others using DVB Viewer. Using EasyBlindScan Pro it works much better.

BTW is there enough power in the USB sat tuner (either TBS 5922 or TBS 5980) to power a H-H motor that gets it's power from the coax? I know they expect around 500mA for the LNB and for the motor.

Update 30/8/13: I did improve the dish movement in DVB Viewer but turning off direct tuning in the hardware configuration. Not sure if it helped but I also stop stream while tuning option on seemed to make it better as well.

Hi CrazyCat,

I went back to using the 5922 instead of my 5980. I am not sure if its a driver/setting issue or my tuner is faulty but I found that the 5980 would seem to lock up often after blind scanning (Using EBSPRO). Also the blind scan on the 5980 was quite slower than the 5922. A difference on one sat of around 6-7 mins.

Both USB tuners are able to move my dish now that I have a different positioner.

Could it be drivers problems with the 5980 that made it lock up? I am using the latest V1.0.2.9.
Or could it be settings in ESBPRO? Using version 9.2.0.0

It seems stable when just viewing with DVB Viewer but when scanning it would sometimes require to be turned on/off to make it work again.

Do you have any further advice?

thanks,
Brandon

No way you can run the motor/lnb off USB alone, no where near enough power coming from the USB port. Will the tuner even work off USB alone? I can't see it designed that way.

I don't use windows, or the 5980, but my stv090x devices blindscan a single polarity in under 2 min in Linux.

updatelee, the USB tuners have their own power supply so it's not supplying power to the motor/lnb from the PC.
My CBAND dish has it's own positioner so its not using power from the PC except for the LNB power.
Both my TBS UBS tuners can power my H-H Ku band 85cm dish no problems. That wasn't the problem.

My problem was that when i blind scanned with Easy Blind Scan Pro with the 5980 it was slower compared to the 5922 and it sometimes locked up that required me to unplug the tuner from the power supply to reset it before it would work again.

Maybe I missunderstood, that looked like you were asking if the tuners could power the motor/lnb off usb. no worries

I dont have either tuner so its hard for me to comment other then Ive had very good luck with all six various stv0900/stv0903 pc tuners Ive got. With some tweeking of the kernel code Ive got them to scan pretty quickly.

I just tested on 107w and a smart blindscan (uses a spectrum scan to guess possible tp's) took 8sec, and a full blindscan took 21sec for each polarity. That will change slightly on different satellites, but it gives you an idea. note this is just to find the tuning paramaters of tp's on that satellite, not parse them for channel info, that would take an additional time per tp to grab that.

This is in Linux using my kernel tree and my software.
