Freeview HD without sound solution(setting up HE-AAC codec)

The audio streams on the Freeview HD channels are currently being broadcast all in HE-AAC (High-Efficiency Advanced Audio, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Effic ... dio_Coding) format. If you get no sound while watching Freeview HD channels on your PC using a DVB-T2 tuner, you need to set up your device for HE-AAC, here we introduce two easy ways.

As an example, we choose the TBS 6280 PCI-E DVB-T2 Dual Tuner Card, which is ideal for picking up DVB-T2 signal in the UK.
After you’ve installed your TBS 6280 PCI-E DVB-T2 Dual Tuner Card in your PC correctly and also an aerial is connected, you are ready for the set up.

1. TBSViewer + FFDShow

TBSViewer, which comes with all TBS products in the installation CD, is a very simple to use application.
FFDShow:
ffdshow is a media decoder and encoder mainly used for the fast and high-quality decoding of video in the MPEG-4 ASP (e.g. encoded with DivX, Xvid, or FFmpeg MPEG-4) and AVC (H.264) formats, but it supports numerous other video and audio formats as well. It is free software released under the GPL license, runs on Windows, and is implemented as a DirectShow and VFW decoding filter.

Step 1
install the TBSViewer , now if you don’t have the correct AAC codec installed and set up, when you watch Freeview HD channels, for example, BBC One HD , you will hear no sound. Then we need to go to

Step2
install the FFDShow which you may download from internet free, then we try again with the TBSViewer:
go to Options->Codecs menu, as it is shown below:

by clicking “AUTO” you can choose the decoder FFDShow, then click “OK”

check on the BBC One HD and we will hear sound as well as see picture.

2. DVBDream + VLC (VideoLAN)
DVBDream is a very popular application, which has very good support to TBS products.
VLC (VideoLAN):
VideoLAN is a project that develops software for playing video and other media formats across a local area network (LAN). It originally developed two programs for media streaming, VideoLAN Client (VLC) and VideoLAN Server (VLS), but most of the features of VLS have been incorporated into VLC, with the result renamed VLC media player.

Step 1
install the DVBDream , now if you try to watch Freeview HD channels, for example, BBC One HD , you hear no sound. Then we need to go to

Step2
install the VLC, then we try again with the DVBDream:
go to DVBDream->Tools->choose VLC, it will ask you "Streaming is not active. Would you like to activate the streaming?” Click “YES”, then you can enjoy the program by VLC.

Yes, so easy is it! Just get started and have more fun!

Hi I've done as you've said and still have no sound on HD TV. It's fine on normal TV. I play sound through my HD motherboard through a HDMI cable to a surround sound unit. The picture is fine. Any help please? Ta Steve
