No 6928 mentioned in 130927

No 6928 mentioned in 130927

Postby wa7kgx » Fri Oct 25, 2013 5:06 pm

Following the instructions on the TBS web site, I downloaded the 130927 Linux driver zip file.
I could not find any mention of my tbs6928 card.

I followed the printed instructions to compile and install
for 64 bit Linux. After reboot there is no dmesg indication of cx anything.
I tried this on both Fedora 20 and Koroa 19 (both 64 bit).

Please provide files and directions applicable to my card.

Hi wa7kgx.
What about "lspci -v" as root ? Are there some multimedia controller?
Regards.

lspci -v as root didn't show anything interesting, but with dmesg|less
I was able to find mention of the 6928.

Is there a blind scan program for Linux?

I am trying to use the 6928 under Linux because Dvbdream always
crashes under 64 vit Win 7. I use it for recording NASA select.

I get this in the lspci -v output. I don't know if it is the 6928 or not.

Have you installed the TBS drivers?

lsmod

Will tell you

Apparently I have not installed the TBS drivers.

Following the instructions as best as I can (there is no "build" command as mentioned in the README)
the make fails looking for a .o file. Looking at the files generated, there is a .o.x96_64 file but no
tbs8921ctro.o file.

I don't want files for an 8921 just for the 6928 anyway.

Could you post a version of the Linux driver for the 6928 that actually compiles and installs
on a recent 64 bit Fedora Linux?

I finally got some drivers to install using instructions in README_TBS6921.
Why isn't there a README_TBS6928 file ??????

Next step is to scan the satellite AMC18:

[root@stereo dvb-s]# w_scan -c US -fs -sS105W0
w_scan version 20130331 (compiled for DVB API 5.10)
using settings for 105.0 west AMC 15/18
scan type SATELLITE, channellist 117
output format vdr-2.0
WARNING: could not guess your codepage. Falling back to 'UTF-8'
output charset 'UTF-8', use -C <charset> to override
Info: using DVB adapter auto detection.
/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 -> "TurboSight TBS 6928 DVBS/S2 frontend" doesnt support SATELLITE -> SEARCH NEXT ONE.
main:3228: FATAL: ***** NO USEABLE SATELLITE CARD FOUND. *****
Please check wether dvb driver is loaded and
verify that no dvb application (i.e. vdr) is running.

OK, so what is the missing magic cookie?????

I think its -f s not -fs

I dont use w_scan, just looking at the help file thats what it appears to be.

Nevermind, I tried it, it doesnt detect the type for any of my cards either, TBS, Prof, Genpix, Skystar, etc.

w_scan has some issues clearly.

Are you trying to use w_scan for some purpose or just trying to test the card?

I'm trying to get Linux and the 6928 to record NASA Select on AMC18 because the Windows version always crashes after a while.
