Tips for "TBS card can't be detected by new PC"

Postby steven » Mon Sep 24, 2012 3:01 pm

Hi All

We have been reported by some users that the TBS card can't be detected in a new PC, this is
because our new PCI-E card uses NXP 7160 bridge, and NXP7160 is PCI-E 1.0a, so some
motherbroads have not added the support for PCI-E 1.0a.If you are exepriencing this issue,
please try:

First: Check whether BIOS is the lates, if not , update it.

Second:Change your motherbroad's PCI-E BIOS setting, one of the users has changed it as below, and it now works fine again:
garry Wrote:Hi steven,

I updated BIOS to the latest version - no result. But in the end I solved the issue, maybe solution will be useful for someone. The problem is that new PCE-E standard has a full default backward compatibility with old PCE-E standards only in theory, not in real life. So you should reconfigure PCI-E slots in BIOS. In my case I changed link speed - from PCI-E Generation 3 to PCI-E Generation 1. After this all will work.

If you have found another solution , please share with us:)

Kind Regards

I have similar problem with TBS6921. I do not kow if 6921 has the same bridge but reading in motherboard forum I realise it is the same case.
My motherboard is ASUS z77 (P8Z77-V Deluxe) but I know all z77 series has the same problem. Asus is aware of the problem and is working on a solution.
One temporary solution is use OLDER bios with release dates before June 2012 using bios flashback fuction until newer bioses are released.

Hi bfc123

TBS6921 should have not this problem, and you have say that the OLDER bios is ok,so
maybe the new bios have something wrong with PCI-E update,You can report this problem
to ASUS,maybe they will help you about this. :)

Kind Regards

I have similar problems using an TBS 6981 card, so I don't know to post this issue additionally in subforum TBS6981 ..
Reading bfc123 I guess that this is a general P8Z77 Deluxe Issue...
At the beginning card was visible in configuration, starting a second time boot TBS could not be found.
I changed card's PCIe slot and again card was visible for a short time (until next reboot)...

@bfc123 Is this same behaviour with your TBS6921 card?

So I will have to go back to a previous BIOS release until ASUS has solved problem releasing a new BIOS version?

I've fixed my problem and Asus is working on a solution but I report it here because it may be usefull for other users.
The exact same problem I have with TBS6921 is reported also with TBS6981 at Asus forum.

I copy from Asus forum:

The TV Tuner problem was confirmed to be caused by the fact that the particular TV Tuner controller used on the reported TV Tuner cards have problem dealing with re-capture and write event during POST stage for proper detection of devices installed as outlined in the PCIE specification.

I hope this helps for you to understand if it is same problem or not with TBS6991 and maybe help some other TBS owners that have similar problems.

Latest working bios for P8Z77-V Deluxe was 1015 and I think the version is same for all z77 Asus series. After that they did something that breaks the detection of pci-e DVB cards with specific chipsets. For P8Z77 WS there is already a fixed bios and for the rest a solution is on the way.
