TBS 6991 random crashes

Postby TriforceOfLazy » Mon Jan 20, 2014 9:31 am

Hi all,

I have sent an e-mail to TBS support but would like to post here too to reach a wider audience with this issue.
I have recently purchased the TBS 6991 and 6985 to use as HTPC. I am running the following:
Mobo:GA-H81M-HD3
CPU:i3 4130
RAM:4GB 1600Mhz
GPU:onboard
OS:Win7 x64
I have tried a variety of DVB software like DVBViewer (with and without Recording Service), TBSViewer and DVBDream. All applications result in the same.
The issue is as follows: The DVB application will crash randomly whenever a tuner is being accessed or released for viewing a channel. This happen with both encrypted and FTA channels on any tuner available. I can reproduce this problem a few times a day if I have a few timers set to record programs.
Here are a few error logs from Windows:

One of the crashes was a freeze, but the others were crashes mentioning the tbsCIapi.dll.
I have tried several versions of this DLL. 1010 1012 and 1013. With all three resulting in the same issue.
Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone been able to fix/circumvent this?

All input is welcome.

Hi TriforceOfLazy

Can you success view the Encrypted channel with tbs6991 two tuner at the same time?

Would you mind having a try copy two instance of tbsciapi.dll and rename it to like
tbsciapi(1).dll and tbsciapi(2).dll
or
tbsciapi1.dll and tbsciapi2.dll.
and use latest DVBViewer's tbsciapi.dll

try again.

Thanks

Kind Regards

I'm afraid that this information is somewhat inaccurate…
DVBViewer always requires a library named tbsCIapi, only for another tuner is looking for another library named tbsCIapi1, etc (1st tuner > tbsCIapi.dll, 2nd tuner > tbsCIapi1.dll, 3rd tuner > tbsCIapi2.dll).
If a library named tbsCIapi does not exist, then the library tbsCIapi1 DVBViewer does not accept.
In other words, for the first tuner must always be a library named tbsCIapi.dll, a library named tbsCIapi1.dll for the second tuner, etc.
DVBViewer does not accept names such as tbsCIapi(1), tbsCIapi(2), …
The problem will probably be something else

Hello,

Yes. I can view two encrypted channels at the same time just fine. I am currently using the latest from the DVBViewer download tool (1.0.1.3) and the only driver version available (1.0.0.6) for the TBS6991.
DVBViwer already created several copies of the DLL for me, so that can't be the issue I suppose.
I can see that the crashes happen randomly whenever a tuner is being opened or closed for viewing a channel since the crashes happen at the start or end of a set timer and even if I manually start or stop a recording.
