MPEG 2 HD vs. MPEG 4 HD

Anything from the case design to the chip inside, from expectation to suggestion, the most important thing is, you are IN.

MPEG 2 HD vs. MPEG 4 HD

I have yet to flash the unit with the new software but I have it up and running out of the box.

I use a 1 gig switch and VLC on a computer with an Intel I7 cpu.

The MOI seems to work well with Standard Definition MPEG2 and MPEG4, however in High Definition, only MPEG2 is problem free. I find the MPEG4 HD that carries 1080i content causes the picture to stutter. Would that be a limitation of the processor of the MOI or the 10/100 connection of the MOI?

Are these encrypted services? I've found that with software descrambling, the MOI can cope with lower bitrate HD channels (perhaps up to about 10-15MBits/s), but for higher bitrates the CPU can't cope. I've looked briefly at trying to optimise tvheadend's descrambling, but without any useful results yet.

I've had no problems with FTA HD services, but I've only tried relatively low bitrate channels (those averaging around 8-10MBits/s).

It is FTA. I tested on the 1080i PBS channels on 125W freq. 12180V as well as 1080i NHK on 58W freq. 4040H. I do not know the bit-rate yet, but I will see if I can find it using one of my TBS-cards and the appropiate software.
