Combined DVB-T & T2 driver released!

Re: Combined DVB-T & T2 driver released!

OK - had another go with a clean install of MythBuntu 11.10.
Everything appears to go as expected and I get the correct info as above to 'lstpci -v' but the response to 'dmesg | grep DVB' is simply:

[ 6.960210] DVB: registering new adapter (SAA716x dvb adapter)

and I once again can find nothing in the Myth Back End set up for Capture Cards.

Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious here?

See in the logs if the card is registerind and add a new dvb adapter, or is registered and unregistered inmediatly.
If dvb adapter is added, you can find it in /dev/dvb
See to if the card is searching same firmware and don't findining it.

just tried running the 'make' stage again and studied the console log. At 'stage 2' it comes up with a bunch of WARNINGs, including the line:
WARNING: could not find /home/perry/Downloads/Drivers/linux-tbs-drivers/v4l/.tbs62x0fe_driver.o.cmd for /home/perry/Downloads/Drivers/linux-tbs-drivers/v4l/tbs62x0fe_driver.o

(there is a similar line for all the other tbs cards)
Could this be relevant?

Has anybody else loaded the drivers successfully on a MythBuntu system?

TBS support have the true answer, I think, your problem is there. Try send an e-mail to support@tbsdtv.com with this warning.
Did you saw if the adapter is inserted and added a new interface, maybe near the line posted en past message have some more util information.

Best regards.

Well nobody can say I haven't tried! I have now run the process with a new installation of full version of Ubuntu 11.10 with same result as above. I have now also just tried with a new installation of Fedora 16 which doesn't get far down the 'make' scripts before complaining of missing files in the library:
File not found: /lib/modules/3.1.0-7.fc16.i686.PAE/build/.config at ./scripts/make_kconfig.pl line 33, <IN> line 4.

I think I will now take a back seat for a few weeks and see what progresses!
Thanks to those who tried to help - much appreciated.

hi,
I have the new combined SD/HD driver working on Ubuntu 11.10.
I had the previous SD driver working and this upgrade was surprisingly easy, compared to my initial problems getting it working.

i'd suggest the following ..
1. check if your MythBuntu release use the R3 kernel. Mythbuntu 11.10 uses the R3 kerenel.
there is a separate command for compiling the TBS driver for newer R3 kernels.
use the ./v4l/tbs-x86_r3.sh sciript before issuiing the make commands.
the R3 script is not listed in the Linux wiki page mentioned earlier

2. check what subdirectory you execute the make commands from. you need to be in the /linux-tbs-driver/.
for example, if you are in the v4l directory it doesn't work properly. i can't remember the error but it wasn't obvious!

Well I've installed the new drivers but still don't get T2 HD channels, only SD. Do I need to do something to add HD? I'm using Mythbuntu 11.10.

Halleluyah! Thanks Colin - that did the trick and at last I have my card recognised. By the way - I also ignored the update software when I first ran MythBuntu 11.10 which had previously generated errors.
Now I have the rather ominous looking task of setting up MythTV - but that as they say is for another day and another forum. Thanks again for all the help and good luck to all the other newbies that are floundering around in the linux swamp looking for these islands of dry land!

hi,

for set up i'd recommend the MythTV Ubuntu set up guide here: http://parker1.co.uk/mythtv_ubuntu.php

to get the new HD channels:
did you go in to MythTV back end and scan for the new channels? that should find them ok as they are new (channels 50, 51 etc.) and don't conflict with the existing SD ones.
you could first test that you have the HD channels outside of MythTV using the scan utility that TBS provide with the driver.

to use scan you need to get the relevant channels for your transmitter which are stored
using scan is documented here :http://parker1.co.uk/mythtv_dvb.php

if it works ok with the scan utility then try it inside MythTV....using scan will help identify it's a driver issue. if that works, it's going to be a MythTV setup issue..

Well I've tried scanning the channels and still no HD channels appear. I'm using the Crystal Palace transmitter which is supposed to have HD available but I can't see any evidence of it. Is the HD multiplex missing from the uk-CrystalPalace config file?
