TV aerial output

TV aerial output

Postby bivvy » Fri May 24, 2013 5:20 am

I suspect that this is a real noob question - sorry if it's posted in the wrong place.

I'm building an HTPC for use with my conventional TV. When I'm not recording or playing back recorded TV I want to switch off the HTPC to save energy, and then my plan is to use the built in tuner in the TV if in want to watch live TV.

I have connected the aerial cable:

Aerial -- TBS input -- TBS output -- TV

When the HTPC is switched on everything works fine. I can watch TV using the tuner that is built into TV, and I can also watch/record TV on the HTPC. However, when I turn off the HTPC the TV complains that there is no signal.

Does anyone know whether the TV signal is only routed to the output connector when the card is powered up? My guess is that there is an amplifier to boost the output which would explain the behaviour that I am getting.

Thanks.

Solved - just received this back from the TBS support team:

Sorry that just contact this issue with our hardware engineer ,he said if you want to use
the loop out signal coming from TBS6280,you need to power on TBS6280.
So when you power off your PC ,the signal will not be loop out from TBS6280.

Thanks to these guys for their quick response.

But quite strange... I'm not sure why it didn't work for u, but when I shut down my TBS6280, its output could still work for my TV. Maybe it's because it's analog signal, so it doesn't need a booster.
TBS6285 is a bad card and TBS is a bad service company.

The CEO of TBS had better contact me to understand what happened.

I used to have TV aerial output, but not any more
In fact 'RF In' does not work any more
Thankfully plugging the aerial feed into the 'RF Out' keeps my 6280 working
But no pass-through
Has anyone dealt with this problem?
It's beyond the warranty
