TBS 6285 not detected on Asus H170 Skylake Motherboard

Postby ittroll » Wed Oct 28, 2015 7:31 pm

I have discovered that my TBS 6285 is not recognised or detected in my new motherboard which is an Asus H170M-E D3. It does however work fine on an older motherboard. Searching these forums I have seen multiple reports of similar issues and that this is likely due to a PCIe compatibility problem with this card. I have also seen reports that this inherent fault has now been fixed in the revised TBS 6205.

I purchased my TBS 6285 just last year and so have emailed support about this. I am awaiting their response.

I have not had any contact from TBS Support since emailing them last weekend. It does look like the PCIe bridge chip (NXP SAA7160) used on some TBS cards is giving problems on newer motherboards which have the H170 and Z170 chipsets.

I have been in contact with Asus but they are firmly laying the blame on the TBS card. My TBS card is still in warranty and so I await a response.

I did eventually make contact with TBS support and exchanged several emails with them. In the end they said they would send me the TBS 6205 which does not suffer from this inherent fault. However nothing ever arrived.

In the meantime following several emails to ASUS support they added the feature to the H170 BIOS to allow you to specify Gen1 PCI-E speed. So ASUS have to come to the rescue to fix a problem in another manufacturer's product. I am rather disappointed with TBS though, it would seem my 2-year warranty is worthless.

Hi ittroll

Sorry for the inconvenience ,just contact our support last email is about ship back your card first then we will ship back the new card for you.
After that we have not got any reply.

And as this problem is the mainboard issue ,they have not added PCI-E1.0a support, our cards is ok.and we always try our best to solve the problem

Hello,
I've other problems with this card, and trying to solve, I've noticed that setting BIOS on "wake up event from OS" the card was not reconnaised (vanished, disappeared).
Setting BIOS on "wake up event by BIOS" the card function properly.
My MB is an MSI Z170 Tomahawk, have a chipset similar to your.
So I suggest to control your BIOS setup for the wake up event.
Bye.
