Issue after reboot with 6205

Issue after reboot with 6205

Postby hovis » Tue Apr 21, 2015 3:50 am

We received today a new 6205 (DVB-T) and 6905 (DVB-S) card.

The 6205 card (DVB-T) is only working on the first (cold) boot of the server. If the server is then rebooted in Linux, the card is then not detected (it does not show in lspci). If we then pysically pull the power cable out and reconnect, the card is then detected on booting and works (until the next time the server is rebooted).

We have also tried experimenting with all the PCI-E gen speed options in the BIOS with no positive effect.

The new 6905 card (DVB-S) is detected fine in the same server (in place of the DVB-T card) and does not have the same problem - it always detects ok after rebooting.

We have been successfully using both the older 6285 and 6985 cards on the same server without issue (the BIOS is set to GEN-1 PCI-E speed). We use about 40-50 cards a year so I need to figure out a solution to this on the server hardware!

Drivers: tbs-linux-drivers_v150411
Linux test1 3.11.0-26-generic #45~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 15 04:02:35 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Server: AS-Rock IMB-180 (single x16 PCI-E slot)

modprobe settings:-
Code: Select All Code
options saa716x_tbs-dvb int_type=1
options saa716x_tbs-dvb enable_gts=0
options saa716x_tbs-dvb enable_ir=0

Hi hovis

Do you use this board
http://www.asrock.com/IPC/overview.asp?Model=IMB-A180 ?

from the picture it is PCI-E x4 slot not x16, do you used any PCI-E convert with your board?

Thanks

Is is one of these:-

The BIOS version is the latest (1.30)

It is just the new 6205 card which is having this problem after rebooting. The new 6905 as well as the older 6285, 6284, 6985 and 6984 cards worked well on this hardware.

Many thanks.

PS: We also specify 'pcie_aspm=off' on the kernel command line.

dmesg & lspci -vvv output of a good boot, and a bad boot following a reboot command.

Good:-

Bad:-

(the forum would not allow me to post the file contents (too big), or attach the files (extension not allowed) hence the dropbox links)
