ok, I was just doing make clean between attempts. instead of an apparently necessary distclean. the following worked if anyone is interested: make distclean ./v4l/tbs-x86_64.sh make release make menuconfig make make install in the menuconfig i didn't bother doing anything, just exited and saved chan...
