TBS viewer records but no picture displayed

Postby comptech » Thu Sep 15, 2011 4:32 pm

The TBS viewer suddenly won't display anything except a light blue background and what looks like a sheet of music. Recording a program works fine, as does the program progress indicator slide at the bottom of the window, mini-EPG etc. I cannot find any setting that has been accidently triggered to prevent TV from displaying in the TBS Viewer. Any ideas, anyone?

DVB Dream just locked up several times. So did the upgrade which I downloaded. ProgDVB works Okay and displays satellite TV Okay. Please explain what to do to fix TBS Viewer.

Surprise, surprise, TBS Viewer has a picture again. Not sure why. I could remove ProgDVB and see if TBS Viewer still works, or is broken again.

Subsequently removed ProgDVB and the TBSViewer "no picture" fault returned. Re-installed ProgDVB, and all is well again. What is "the decode problem" with TBSViewer that you mentioned? Why does TBSViewer require ProgDVB to be installed before it will display a picture? What can be done to fix the problem without requiring ProgDVB?

Hi comptech

Because in you install the progdvb it will install some decode which is ok,and if you uninstall Progdvb you can not use the decode which is ok.
so this is why when you uninstall progdvb, you can not display the picture.

After a few weeks, we see a message saying Evaluation period expired. Please buy the Elecard MPEG2 video decoder. elecard.com sales@elecard.com . It seems that ProgDVB only comes with an evaluation MPEG2 codec. Your replies say to install ProgDVB in order to get TBSViewer to work properly. But ProgDVB requires a $40 MPEG2 codec to be purchased. Are you saying, by implication, that in order to use the TBS satellite card, we have to buy an MPEG2 decoder which adds $40 to the cost of the card? Or is there some other software we can use that has the necessary MPEG2 decoder?

Well, in great disgust (because the card should have been supplied with all necessary software and clearly is isn't if you have to turn around and buy a codec to use it) we bought the Elecard codec, installed and activated it and it fixed the problem for a couple of weeks only. Since then the problem has recurred every few week is. It's broken again as I write. I've written to support at tbsdtv.com in hope that they will provide a permanent solution. System Restore to an earlier time only fixes things for an hour or so, if it works at all. Removing, then reinstalling all the TBS software brings things right again for a few weeks only, but loses all Recorder programming which extremely annoying. I must say, this is a most frustrating device to use, the way it keeps on putting up a blank screen in TBSViewer, failing without notice, then losing all Recorder programming, over and over again. PLEASE JUST FIX IT, ONCE AND FOR ALL.

And you can use http://www.freecodec.com/download/Windows_7_Codecs.htm.
You don't need to buy one.
