6981 card never be able to lock any channel

Postby cocoa117 » Mon Oct 24, 2011 10:17 am

Hi, I am running Ubuntu 10.10, 64 bit, and I compiled the kernel for the 6981 card, and I got following message from dmesg

sudo dmesg | grep cx23885
[ 97.481072] cx23885 driver version 0.0.3 loaded

So I guess this means it is working, and I can see the front card showing in my /dev/dvb/ folder for two adapter0 and 1.

But I can never use it, I did this to lock the channel and got following error with 28.2E

sudo ./scan-s2 -a 0 ../astra_scan-s2.conf

Done.

The cable and satellite has been fully tested with known working set top box.

I also tried with Kaffeine to see if it can scan the channel. Same result, it always display no input error.

Any ideas?

I have also tested under Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, and it seems the driver can be installed by Windows, but once again, no signal can be pick uped from TBSViewer or ProgDVB program. The same cable put in the set top box can work right way, I assume this means the 6981 card is faulty right?

Any thoughts, before I return it?

ProgDVB scan showing no signal can be detected from the card.

Hi Mate
Exact same problem here!
I had the same problem with the previous driver also
It appears that when the make install process is running there are quite a few tbs drivers not found and 6981 is one of them.
I'm keep waiting for a new driver and then try it but no luck so far.
I'm beginning to wish I hadn't bought this card.
Support seems to be non existant.
Maybe the software guys will prove me wrong, I do hope so.

Hi weseer

Our euro_support have answered this question long time ago through email:
here is the detail informaion wish this can help you:

hi, i believe that:

> sudo ./scan-s2 -a 0 ../astra_scan-s2.conf

fails as simply as because it's just sample file for two frequencies on
Astra 19.2E, which are not valid for Astra 28.2E satellite, i.e. there
is no signal on them and thus the tuning failed. it could be the same
problem with Kaffeine that the transponder list used/set there is not
for Astra 28.2E satellite or it's outdated. also, at least on the your
'dmesg' log everything seems fine, but it's good to check after
executing 'scan-s2' if there are some messages from 6981 driver that
indicates errors:

# dmesg | grep tbs6981fe

or if the the 6981 is successfully initialized after the tune. in my
opinion though, the best and simple way to test is to use 'szap-s2' and
before that manually write/prepare configuration line for 'szap-s2' as
that is explained in README_TBS6981 file, section II.

Thanks
steven
