Ubuntu 11.04 - 2.6.38.12 tbs 6981 driver install

Hi,

I have just installed a second tbs dvb-s2 card and cannot get ubuntu to recognize the card. I have a tbs 8920 already running on the system with no issues.
I have tried to install the latest drivers from this site contained in the linux-tbs-drivers_111118.zip file but this does not contain the tbs6981ctrl.o.x86 object file needed to create the driver. This is the error

I am assuming the the ./tbs-x86.sh script makes the symbolic link to tbs6981ctrl.o.x86 as I have seen this step described in previous posts trying to help users setup this card.

I have downloaded the files http://www.tbsdtv.com/download/TBS6981/ ... 101024.rar which does contain the tbs6981ctrl.o.x86 object file and followed the guide http://blog.mohammadzadeh.info/index.ph ... e-tbs-6980 but this also failed to enable ubuntu to recognize the card.

hi Rick,

you simply don't follow the installation instructions described step-by-step at the beginning of any of the README files (for example README_TBS6981) included in the Linux driver package. so, you don't need to do anything special or difficult just follow the installation instructions. that's why we put guide how to report problems in Linux:

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2197

and emphasize to make sure to read and follow what README files instructs for making proper installation before report a problem. basically, your problem is not really a problem and there is nothing wrong with latest version "111118" drivers - you just missed to read and follow the installation instructions and let me put them here once again:

I.1 extract linux-tbs-drivers.tar.bz2 archive:

# tar xjvf linux-tbs-drivers.tar.bz2

I.2 go to driver package directory:

# cd linux-tbs-drivers

I.3 depending on your kernel version and if the kernel is x86 or
x86_64 (check output of 'uname -a') do:

- for x86 kernel 3.x (x86 32 bit installations of kernel 3.x):

# ./v4l/tbs-x86_r3.sh

- for x86 kernel 2.6.x (x86 32 bit installations of kernel 2.6.x):

# ./v4l/tbs-x86.sh

- for any x86_64 kernel (x86 64 bit installations of Linux):

# ./v4l/tbs-x86_64.sh

I.3 build and install the driver:

# make && make install

I.4 reboot in order to load the newly installed driver:

# shutdown -r now
