your welcome to write a driver for the $20 card.
I own a skywalker-1 and is an excellent card, genpix offers exceptional support. You buy the $20 card and you'll get zero support. You'll be 100% on your own. Do you have experience writing Linux drivers? your welcome to give it a shot, there is lots of educated people out there that could help. But having datasheets helps allot.
The cypress FX2 is a well used usb interface IC, well documented and supported in linux, you'll need to write firmware for it (8051 processor) but there is lots of information on it too. Ive done a little reverse engineering products and I can tell you a very good oscilloscope and logic analyzer helps a ton !
Its a huge job either way.
