Thanks Sergio, but I need to use irexec so I must use lirc. I am using a One for All which is "too complicated" for other users and I am trying to use the TBS as a second remote for Mythtv.

Further to problem. If I reload Mythbuntu WITHOUT doing updates, everything is OK. It would appear that there is a change in 'install' in the latest update (11 sep 13 was when I did it) which TBS are unaware of.

after 'sudo make && sudo make install' I get the full output but the last output is "install: missing file operand". What missing file operand?

TBS 6984, Mythbuntu 64 bit latest release. Driver is loaded and ir-keytable gives driver and table. ir remote is recognised at rc0. All protocols except LIRC are enabled and LIRC is not loaded. ir-keytable -t has no response with any remote ( tbs, panasonic tv and humax 9300-t). What can I check/ do...
