QBOX S2 unable to load driver

I have both Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 systems. The windows 7 system refuses to load the driver for the USB device.

For diagnosis I did a lsusb on my Linux server and I got

If I manually change the 5920 to be 5910 then the driver installs .... but still does not work with Windows Media Centre - I get a blue screen

your device ID "734c:5910" shows that you have Q-box DVB-S (this is the older model without DVB-S2 support). so, in Windows you have to install the following drivers:

also, i believe you don't get lock in Linux, because you tried DVB-S2 signal instead of DVB-S. once again the model you own is not compatible with DVB-S2 and supports DVB-S signal only.

Thanks for the advice. It was so obvious that I'd missed that! The device now works perfectly under Windows Media Centre.

I still have a problem tuning in the Linux server though. I've run scan and it give me something like a reasonable channels.conf file but the Input Source in MythTV won't work.

Am I right in saying that this is now a MthTV problem?

yes, if scan works then the device and driver are installed correctly and that is some MythTV configuration problem.

I'm not sure now ....

After much poking about I have run w_scan and produced a channels.conf file that MythTV seems to like but I still don't get any channels, just "Timed out, no signal" messages.

When I use this command to play the video stream in mplayer

if you can get the channel names using 'w_scan' then it means you can receive data from the satellite, because that is how the names are generated - with analyzing the data received from the satellite.

i'm not sure if the way how you test with 'mplayer' is conclusive for anything, because i'm not sure if 'mplayer' has S2API support or if it does if your 'mplayer' version features such support. so, in any case one good and conclusive way to test with 'mplayer' is:

* lock with 'szap-s2' using "-p -r" switches (as explained in the README file that is part of the Linux driver package) and the "channels.conf" you manged to generate

* while 'szap-s2' is running and is reporting that there is lock watch the channel with 'mplayer':

mplayer /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0
