Great card

Great card

Postby Quequeg » Thu Apr 14, 2011 11:23 pm

I picked up a 6981 to replace a single-tuner DVB-S card, because Channel 4Hd is available in the Uk using DVB-S2 now. Was going to get my usual brand but a single-tuner S2 card cost more than the TBS dual tuner! Very pleased with the TBS - after fitting it and installing the latest drivers for Win7 from the website, Windows Media Center found all the availabe channels including Channel 4 HD. Channel changes much faster then the old DVB-S card. Very impressed and would not hesitate to get another one.
Only downside is no S2 support in GBPVR (or the new version nPVR), which is a shame. Sub the programmer of GBPVR said he would add S2 support if he got a sample card so perhaps TBS should send him one!

Just wanted to update this thread as bob did indeed very promptly contact Sub, the programmer of NPVR , and then TBS sent some sample cards to him.
Sub was able to confirm the cards worked fine in NPVR :D ;
...I didnt have to do anything at all to get DVB-S2 working with these devices. They found my DVB-S2 channels first try. These TBS devices are of the newer style that auto detect the DVB-S2 Pilot and Rolloff values, so as long as you're scanning the DVB-S2 frequencies, then you should already be getting the channels with these devices.
And the latest release of the software now has added support for the TBS cards;
2.1.5 available (12 July)...
- added support for Turbosight CI (TBS devices)

This kind of support from TBS for HTPC software is excellent, and they deserve to do really well.
Thank you again bob for making this happen.
