TBS 6981 on Ubuntu 11.10 no install

it all looks fine except that i think you run:

Code: Select All Code
sudo make && make install

and not

Code: Select All Code
sudo make && sudo make install

and that's why, because 'make install' was missing the 'sudo' in front of it the driver is built properly , but not installed properly.

that's why i personally don't like to use 'sudo' for doing a lot of consecutive steps that require 'superuser' rights, because i need to put it in front of any command and instead when i need to do something that requires 'superuser' rights i just do 'sudo su' first and then there is no need to put 'sudo' in front of every command.

Before "make && make install", run ".v4l/tbs-x86.sh" or ".v4l/tbs-x86_64.sh" if your system is b4 bits.
And see WARNINGs, specially
WARNING: could not find /tbs/linux-tbs-drivers/v4l/.tbsctrl.o.cmd for /tbs/linux-tbs-drivers/v4l/tbsctrl.o
WARNING: could not find /tbs/linux-tbs-drivers/v4l/.tbs6981fe_driver.o.cmd for /tbs/linux-tbs-drivers/v4l/tbs6981fe_driver.o

Best regards.

What exactly do you mean by that? Are the warnings okay, or not?

I ask because my "make" for the 8922 is producing a ton of those warnings, and the driver's not loading at boot (cx88 doesn't recognize the board)

When you complile the driver, you are doing it for a los of devices. Not only for TBS6981.Therefore, it compiles without problems, worse reported that something is not right.
In this case, the warning is for TBS6981, is to consider, but not for other devices.

You are using TBS8922, post the warnings to see it. And add the output as root of "lspci -v" and "ls -l /dev/dvb"

Best regards.

It seems to me that the 6981 it a total waste of money!!!!

I have been try for several months now to get this crap working using each new driver that has been posted.

Every time I get exactly the same errors, always the 6980 and 6981 drivers not found.

Yes I HAVE followed the readme's to the letter and the same results every time.

When are the manufacturers going to come up with a sensible answer.

Every time I Google tbs 6981 all I find is more people with problems and no one with a working card!!!!!!!!!!!
