IR - support (2.6.35 kernel)

IR - support (2.6.35 kernel)

Postby ezynow » Wed Feb 02, 2011 8:53 am

Hi Cody,

I managed to get the card running fine on kernel 2.6.35 (ARCH). (downgrading from 2.6.36 was straightforward)

However I am getting these errors in dmesg regarding the IR receiver:

cx25840 3-0044: IR receiver hardware FIFO overrun

Is this a known issue? I have tried on kernel 2.6.32 (ubuntu) and ir remote seems to work without problem. (maybe changes in cx23885_input file for 2.6.35 ??)

Any suggestions?

hi, that's new issue at least to me. so, the remote is not functioning at all in your 2.6.35 (ARCH) installation downgraded from 2.6.36 kernel and all you get is "cx25840 3-0044: IR receiver hardware FIFO overrun" as error message when you press a remote control key, correct? in any case remote control Linux framework is entirely new in kernel 2.6.36 and we should update our drivers as part of the work for providing good compatibility with newer kernels like 2.6.36/37. unfortunately, you have to wait, because first we want to finish all on-going Linux driver development for some of our upcoming new products and then update all our drivers for 2.6.36 and newer kernels.

HI Cody,

Thanks for looking into this one.

I can't say whether this is specific to my setup so if any other users runing Arch 2.6.35 or other linux variant can confirm this behaviour, it would be helpful??

Cheers.

I can confirm this exact behaviour using 2.6.35 on Arch Linux.

Can't wait for the updated drivers with newer kernel support.

actually, the message:

"cx25840 3-0044: IR receiver hardware FIFO overrun"

is confirmed in v4l mailing list as some issue with IRQ priority in the cx25840 code, but most of the time remote control should be still functional. anyway, since it's not just problem of the code for TBS hardware, but general issue, there will be probably fix by v4l community.

Hi,

I can confirm I'm getting this on XBMCbuntu 11.0:

Linux xbmc 3.0.0-17-generic-pae #30-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 8 17:53:35 UTC 2012 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

With the TBS6981 Dual Tuner card. Seems some buttons on the remote work but the 'OK' button seems to definitely be one that causes the error message in /var/log/syslog:

Apr 12 09:55:35 xbmc kernel: [136025.313520] cx25840 3-0044: IR receiver hardware FIFO overrun
Apr 12 09:55:38 xbmc kernel: [136028.320068] cx25840 3-0044: IR receiver hardware FIFO overrun
Apr 12 09:55:39 xbmc kernel: [136028.768692] TurboSight TBS 6981 Frontend:
Apr 12 09:55:39 xbmc kernel: [136028.768699] tbs6981fe - delivery system 0 is not supported
Apr 12 09:55:41 xbmc kernel: [136031.335038] cx25840 3-0044: IR receiver hardware FIFO overrun
Apr 12 09:55:42 xbmc kernel: [136032.045806] cx25840 3-0044: IR receiver hardware FIFO overrun
Apr 12 09:55:44 xbmc kernel: [136033.851752] cx25840 3-0044: IR receiver hardware FIFO overrun

I think the 'delivery system 0 is not supported' error is related.

Regards,
