cx23885 driver DMA timeouts

cx23885 driver DMA timeouts

Postby hinnack93 » Wed May 30, 2012 11:37 pm

Hi,
I had this issue with the 6981 and kernel 3.2.0-2-amd64. I have compiled the driver as written in README but my vdr 1.7.27 cant tune sometimes some channels. In the syslog are many messages like this

frontend 2/0 timed out while tuning to channel 57, tp 212051
frontend 1/0 timed out while tuning to channel 11, tp 211973

and

cx23885_wakeup: 2 buffers handled (should be 1)

then i run the driver with the debug option and get my Harddisk burning, thousands of

cx23885[0]/0: queue is not empty - append to active
cx23885[0]/0: [ffff880028ef1400/25] cx23885_buf_queue - append to active

cx23885_buf_prepare: ffff880020715000
cx23885[0]/0: queue is empty - first active
cx23885[0]/0: cx23885_start_dma() w: 752, h: 32, f: 2
cx23885[0]/0: cx23885_sram_channel_setup() Configuring channel [TS1 B]
cx23885[0]/0: cx23885_start_dma() enabling TS int's and DMA

then I try with driverparameter

mpegbufs
mpeglines
mpeglinesize
vbibufs

no change was seen

At the Usenet I found this thread.

If the vidb and vidc (ts1 / ts2) bridge streams each single channel
correctly, but not both together then this is either a sram
configuration issue (the risc engine's workspace is being corrupted by
another risc channel), or your system has a pcie compatibility issue.

Do my Motherboard GA-P43-ES3G dont work with your card?

Hi, i'm not sure that the two problems are related - i mean the problem that it some times can't tune to some channels and the "2 buffers handled (should be 1)" message, i.e. the DMA issue, because we had few times such DMA issue reported and it either doesn't cause any issues in practice or disappeared by moving the board to another PCIe slot. i have no information about compatibility issues with GA-P43-ES3G motherboard, but that's an option. so, is it possible for you to try your 6981 card in another motherboard - that way we can rule out the root cause of the problem - it's not usual at all to have such problem and thus it's either your motherboard or some fault on your 6981 card, but i think based on the current information it's more likely to be issue with PCIe interface on the motherboard.

sure this problems are related. I have two more cards in this system and frontend 0 nor frontend 3 have such problems. If i watch live tv at the 6981 then the " buffers handled (should be 1)" message will reszult temporarely in loss of picture.
I dont have an another Board yet to test it. Is there a posibility to deaktivate one tuner? if not then I have waste for 104Eur. :cry:

Hi,

I took a further look at this Problem. maybe the card is broken?

with femon -H -a 1

result

No SCVYL by 'Signal 74% and SNR 93% ????
sometimes no carrier at channels wich can be looked over my tt-1600

with scan-s2 I got sometimes the result

Nothing wrong with that. This timeouts are because i's trying to find TV/Radio PID's in TP with data PID's. Maybe the TP have special signals with CCM/ACM/VCM and your card not fully support it.

Best regards.
