Compiling & installing driver over rights newer drivers

Postby leemind » Wed Jun 06, 2012 5:02 pm

I have a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 box with 2 PCIe TV cards in - One Terrestrial; Hauppauge 2200 and one Satellite; TBS6891

This is a rebuild of my MythTV backend box, and have in the past got everything working together, albeit with a bit of fiddling.

However, I notice on the latest rebuild of the box, the SAA7164 drivers for the Hauppauge autodetected the card without any fiddling, but as soon as I make && make install the TBS drivers, it over rights the newer v4l code that comes with Ubuntu 12.04 with older drivers and then the auto-detection fails (I had a very quick look at the code for the saa7164_card and indeed it appears to be a very old version)

So is it possible, either to update the complete driver package to the latest v4l branch, or better still can you release the driver package such that it only builds the drivers for the TBS cards, not the entire stack (or explain how I could do this?)

Many thanks

David

Update: Looking at a post further down, i configured the ./v4l/.myconfig to only build CX23885 modules and did a make && make install

Semi success... Now I get dmesg | grep cx2
