Picture quality

Picture quality

Postby limiteddi » Mon Dec 23, 2013 11:10 pm

Have an old linux box and I stream out the channels via mumudvb but the channel quality is very sloppy. I tried different head-end apps but all produce the same picture quality when stream is viewed in vlc.

Is it the tuner or video card or both in combination that causes the degradation of picture quality?

Are you transcoding ? if you dont need to be, dont, transcoding by definition is a way of sacrificing quality to lower bandwidth.

If your not transcoding then the satellite signal is untouched and has nothing todo with what software you use, its all identical data. So changing your tuner, or software backend wont change anything.

vlc is decoding the video, so the poor quality your seeing could be settings you have enabled in vlc.

the other thing is have you considered that maybe the transponder your viewing is sending poor video quality ? it happens all the time.

Nope, not transcoding.
I've tried in Windows Dvbdream and Linux with MuMuDVB+VLC(client).
Picture is just not very eye pleasing. So hardware doesnt matter here? Must be the satellites MPEG2 then.

The dvb tuner/demod doesnt touch the mpeg stream, just passes it untouched.

Lots of low bitrate stuff out there, lots of really nice high bitrate stuff too.
