I checked the "Main Features" of the 8921 on the site and noticed that the number 2 feature - Transponder blind scan was in red....all others in black

i see all features are in black on the website:

http://www.tbsdtv.com/english/product/8921.html

and blind-scan is indeed in red on the comparison chart with the older 8920 model:

http://www.tbsdtv.com/english/product/images/8920_vs_8921.jpg

but that's to distinguish only what's different than the older model and not to show anything else, i.e. like emphasize on some very main feature. anyway, that's just ridiculous to even discuss in the context of the technical problems here.

so, now as i understand we add to the list of problems - slow lock, because i fully agree 15 seconds to get a lock is absolutely unacceptable. does that happen with only very low and very high symbol-rates like in the example you gave?

I did some timed comparisons with Transedit, the 8921 and my Prof 7301 which is in the same machine. The Prof is faster tuning transponders in general, the 8921 seemed to take the most time with lower SR. I played with a 1480 SR, repeatedly the 8921 would take over 1 minute to lock, the Prof locked consistantly in 8-9 seconds. Thinking the 8921 just didn't like the 1480 SR, I found a 1663 SR, this was tuned in 20 seconds, while the Prof took about 8-9 seconds. With a 32362 SR the difference was much less noticable, Prof 10 seconds to lock, 8921 14-15 seconds.
Each time after changing card preference in Transedit I re-started the program, on a few occasions when shutting down Transedit, the machine re-booted.

thanks, i believe it's all just bug in the driver, i.e. symbol rate optimizations and we should be able to reach performance comparable to you prof card. thanks, for giving in-depth details, i'm sure you all realize that as much details are provided as good the fixes we will provide are going to be.

Something I noticed while blind scanning Galaxy 3C ku Band at 95W.....the 8921 is scanning in DirectTv(DSS) signals, it shows them as DTV.

actually, the documentation is very vague about it, but there are version of the demodulator on 6921/8921/5921 that can handle DSS, but in theory that version of the chip is sold to US customers only, which could not be true. so, i guess it's possible that 6921/8921/5921 will be able to lock DSS - currently DSS tune request is not sent by the driver - only DVB-S/S2, but if there is interest in DSS reception, i can make test driver to give it a shot. it may won't work, but i can't see what prevents us from trying it.

Personally I have no interest but others may. I will certainly try out a driver if you put one together. I played with DSS a few years ago with my Twinhan1020a, using TsReader and the twinhan1020dss.dll. As I recall everything was encryped except for some overcompressed, lossy all music stations and a few barker channels.
I bought the 8921 from BuyDvb, so not sure if it was intended for NA

@cody - in relation to my 6921 card

pjm Wrote:the "Retune" fails & I get stuck forever in the "tune" dialog box. I have either use another BDA driver for TSReader, or remove the registry entries for TSReader & reinstall the software to use it again!

Cody - it seems the TBS TSReader_BDA source is not reading command line inputs which is why it is failing to tune, as that is how tsreader does the tune. The 6921 driver seems to indicate command line parameters are n/a

Image

fwiw Rod Hewitt who wrote tsreader has said he will fix the problem if you send him the source code - in his words "10 minute fix"

Please advise.

at least in my opinion it has to be something else, but anyway there is no problem to add command line inputs to the module. i'm close to finishing my on-going project and thus have more time to improve 6921/8921 software bugs, but in any case i will try to find some time and build such module for you in the next several days.

Just a quick question on a very similar topic to this thread, has anyone tried the blind scan tool with the qbox 3? There doesn't appear to be a sub forum for this unit yet.

I am in canada and I'm using the qbox 3 with windows 7. The qbox is recognized by dvbdream, tsreader, and media portal. I can perform a sattellite scan with no problems when using these programs, but I can not seem to get the blind scan tool working. I have tried both a standard linear lnb and a universal.
I enter the following settings for the standard lnb
freqlower 950 mhz
frequpper 1450 mhz
LOF 1 10750
LOF SW 0
LOF 2 0
22khz off
polarity (I have tried all three options H, V, All)

For the universal lnb
freqlower 950 mhz
freq upper 2000 mhz
LOF 1 9750
LOF SW 11700
LOF 2 10600
22 khz (tried both settings)
Polarity (tried all three settings)

With the standard lnb the progress bar gets near complete and then hangs up. I have left it there for hours and it does not complete the scan or list any TPs found.
With the universal lnb I can get the scan to finish, but it returns a pop up message saying 0 channels found and there are no TPs listed.
Assuming the BS Tool has the same 22khz issue as mentioned in this thread I should still be able to pick up the lower freq TPs in a blind scan.
The dish is pointed correctly and as I mentioned earlier the unit will perform sat scans on TPs already listed.
Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated as the BS feature was the main reason that I had purchased this unit.

Thank you.

What do you expect to find? If the tool is working, you'll only find what you already know: wideband transponder on DBS satellites ;)
