MythTV failing to add in 6921 card..

Hi

I have brought a 6921.

I have had mythtv installed and running on a DVB-T card for 2 months without a problem.

I installed the drivers as per the readme:

output from :

I can scan via scan :-

scan -x0 -a 2 /usr/share/dvb/dvb-s/Astra-28.2E | tee channels.conf
cut
0x0000 0xd386: pmt_pid 0x010e BSkyB -- JML Direct (running)
0x0000 0xd395: pmt_pid 0x010f BSkyB -- Fitness TV (running)

0x0000 0xd35e: pmt_pid 0x0108 BSkyB -- CBS Action (running)
Network Name 'ASTRA'
Network Name 'ASTRA'

And get a conf file....

However - when trying to install into mythtv 0.23

When I add a capture card (DVB DTV v3) - can can select the new adaptor2 - but it says :

Frontend ID - Could not get card info for /dev/dvb - Subtype unknown error.

I select LNB as usual from the DISCQ options, and add the card..

I create a Video Source and then try to associate that in Input connections.

I try to click scan for channels - but get a "failed to open card error"

Clicking next gives me a "Programmer Error"

Loads of googling has not thrown up this error or any fix.

Can anyone help???

Many thanks

Mike Bennett

hi Mike,

the logs shows that the driver is correctly install and fully functional, which is double confirmed from your test with 'scan'. however, obviously the problem is MythTV configuration and it seems to me it's clear why: you select "(DVB DTV v3)", which should mean adapter that is using Linux DVB API v3 - your DVB-T adapter indeed uses API that is v3 compatible, but no any DVB-S2 hardware can use Linux DVB API v3, because that API version doesn't support DVB-S2 - in Linux DVB-S2 hardware drivers use Linux DVB API v5.x, which is also known as "S2API". so, please, check MythTV documentation how to configure S2API/ Linux DVB API v5.x compatible adapter in the application.

Re: MythTV failing to add in 6921 card.. - SOLVED

For anyones info -

MythTV was not the problem - it was permissions.

It was the permissions on /dev/dvb/adaptor?/frontend0. Root owns them and the video group has read access, but everyone has no access.

We added in the current user - and we can now view the card and scan for channels....

Might we worth adding to a FAQ to save headaches!!

Cheers
